The Devil Wears Prada 2 has just bagged the praise of an unexpected director, as the man behind Interstellar, The Dark Knight and Oppenheimer has bowed down to the fashion drama. During a promotional appearance for his upcoming film The Odyssey, Nolan casually dropped a glowing review of The Devil Wears Prada 2 on national television, and the internet absolutely lost its mind.
Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Nolan was asked whether he had caught the Anne Hathaway film, and his response was immediate as he stated,
“I watched it last night. It was fabulous, with Emily Blunt as well. It was terrific.”
The comment hit social media within hours, with fans delighting in the image of one of cinema’s most cerebral directors turning into a converted Prada enthusiast overnight. Part of what made this exchange so heartfelt is that Nolan has a history with both leading women.
He directed Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises and as a NASA pilot in Interstellar, and Emily Blunt played Katherine Oppenheimer in his Oscar-winning 2023 film. Hathaway also stars as Penelope in The Odyssey, which makes his praise all the more beautiful.
Fans immediately made the clip viral, with one user noting that Nolan as a cinephile loves moves and would practically watch anything
More details about The Devil Wears Prada 2
The Devil Wears Prada 2 brings back the core cast that made the first film a classic, and even after two decades, the magic is still there. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci returned as their characters, in different places, different ages but somehoe everything felt the same.
The sequel heavily discusses the impact AI, social media and decline of traditional magazines have had on Runway, with Andy being fired from her previous job, Miranda’s career in turmoil and Emily working in retail. New additions to the cast include Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, and Pauline Chalamet.
Disney mounted one of its biggest marketing campaigns in recent memory around the release, including a “Giant Red Heel Tour” where oversized red heels appeared at major landmarks across the country, a physical recreation of the Runway magazine spring issue, and a promotional partnership list that included Dior, Google, Starbucks, Tiffany & Co., Diet Coke, and Mercedes, among many others. All in all, it was another iconic moment in fashion and in cinema, and Nolan’s comment only shows how the film has managed to reach even the most sombre directors.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in theatres.
