Amanda Mealing – who played Connie Beachamp in the BBC soap – revealed she is now having to spend a week face down after quick treatment saved her sight.

Writing on Instagram, she said: “I’d suddenly lost vision in one eye so went to hospital yesterday morning.

“By lunchtime I was on the operating table having my retina re-attached, repairs to torn parts and…a gas bubble inserted (who knew?!)?

“Now I must spend a week prone, face first (used to be familiar!)🤪 And THAT was just Monday 😂

“And were it not for the beautiful, indefatigable souls @karlcooper426 @glynn.haywardaesthetics I’d simply not be here.

“You save my day, my arse, my dog and my life every day. Eternity is not enough time to say thank you 💋💋💋💋💋 And you, @zoweyb1 for bringing home the cyclops. Thank you all for finding me. ❤️❤️❤️”

The star has had a tough year following a cocaine-fuelled car crash that left a male nurse injured.

Amanda had taken cocaine the night before and veered across the road in her Mini, ploughing into nurse Mr Le Sage’s Skoda as he drove to work in Deeping St Nicholas.

In court, Amanda pleaded guilty to drug driving and driving without due care and attention.

She was banned from driving for 22 months and fined £485.

The court heard she had 18mcg of cocaine in her blood—almost twice the legal limit of 10mcg—and nearly five times the legal threshold for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of the drug.

She sustained a broken wrist, a broken clavicle, and a cut to the head.

The court was told Amanda had been struggling in the lead-up to the crash after the death of her father and her dog.

She had taken cocaine at a friend’s house before setting off home. She has not been able to offer an explanation for why her car crossed to the opposite carriageway.

Her lawyer Edward Lloyd told the court: “In terms of the offence, my client pleaded guilty to drug driving at the very first opportunity.

“It’s something she’s deeply ashamed of. She’s not somebody who takes drugs at all.

“Her brother died of a drugs overdose when he was 18 and she says herself that she should have known better.”

Amanda recently landed a new role for her return to television and will star in the next series of Channel 5’s Good Ship Murder.
