Here’s who brought the TVING K-drama to life

TVING’s popular fantasy K-drama, Island, premiered in 2022, and is considered one of the most acclaimed K-dramas, with fans still waiting to hear news of a sequel.

The K-drama, which is also available to stream on Prime Video, features a star-studded cast including Kim Nam-gil, Lee Da-hee, and Cha Eun-woo, in key roles. Here’s a complete guide to the cast and characters of Island.

Based on a webcomic by Yoon In-wan and Yang Kyung-il, the fantasy K-drama brings three characters together on Jeju Island to fight a form of evil that threatens the existence of the current world.

Here’s the list of the main cast and characters of the Prime Video K-drama:

1) Lee Da-hee as Won Mi-ho / Wonjeong

Da-hee plays the character of Mi-ho, a chaebol heiress, in the K-drama. After a scandal, she is sent to spend some time on Jeju Island until everything settles. However, she finds her life in more danger just as she lands in Jeju, as demons begin to attack her.

She is saved by a mysterious figure, who also shares a deeper connection to Mi-ho, which she is initially unaware of. As the fantasy K-drama progresses, viewers get to find out why the demons have been targeting Mi-ho in the first place.

The popular actress is also known for her K-drama roles in S Line, Search: WWW, Queen of Mystery 2, and is one of the hosts of Netflix’s fan-favorite dating reality show, Single’s Inferno.


2) Kim Nam-gil as Van

Kim Nam-gil plays the character of Van. He is the one who saves Mi-ho’s life from the demon when she lands in Jeju, and in all the other instances as well. As the K-drama progresses, it is revealed that Van himself is a demon, but vows to protect human lives from evil forces around the Island. He also shares a connection with Mi-ho from her previous life, and the duo later join hands to get rid of the evil forces.

Nam-gil is one of the most celebrated South Korean actors who has appeared in numerous acclaimed K-dramas such as Queen Seondeok, The Fiery Priest, Through the Darkness, and Netflix’s Trigger.


3) Cha Eun-woo as Priest Johan

K-pop Idol and actor Cha Eun-woo plays a priest named Johan in the TVING K-drama. The young priest thrusts himself into Mi-ho’s life in Jeju, trying to be with her all the time. It is later discovered that he had an ulterior motive, and as demons begin targeting Mi-ho, he was there to exorcise those demons out of the human bodies they possessed.

Eun-woo is a member of the popular K-pop boy band, Astro, and has appeared in K-dramas such as True Beauty, Gangnam Beauty, and will be seen in the upcoming Netflix K-drama, The Wonderfools.


4) Sung Joon as Gungtan

Sung Joon plays Gungtan. He initially possessed Johan’s brother and later reveals himself to be a demon who had known Van and Mi-ho from their previous lives. He and Van were converted into demons together. However, while Van chose to protect humans, Gungtan went down a more dangerous and evil path.

Sung Joon has appeared in K-dramas such as Can This Love Be Translated?, Butterfly, High Society, and The Fiery Priest 2.
