Apex is Netflix’s new survival and it starts off with a rock climbing disaster. This disaster changes Sasha’s life forever, and things only get worse for her from there on out. Her solo healing trip suddenly turns into a hunt in the wilderness of Australia and what starts off as a grief-driven travel turns into a fight for her to stay alive at all costs.
The film was released on April 24, 2026, and it has an amazing leading cast. Charlize Theron leads the film as Sasha, and Taron Egerton is the man hunting her in the wilderness. Last, we also have Eric Bana also plays an important role, regardless of his having a limited amount of screen time.
Apex: What is the Taron Egerton thriller film on Netflix about?
Apex on Netflix starts with Sasha and her husband Tommy attempting to go on a not-so-easy climb at Norway’s Troll Wall. The couple plans to finish the climb the next morning, but because of bad weather, their plan gets ruined.
Because of an avalanche that causes Tommy’s death in Apex (it is really, really bad weather), Sasha is forced to figure out a devastating situation all by herself.
Five months after Tommy’s death, Sasha goes to Australia to try and deal with all of her grief. She also carries Tommy’s lucky compass with her so that she can feel closer to him in spirit. When she reaches the Wandarra National Park, she meets a ranger who warns that there are several people who have vanished from this area.
At a gas station, Sasha then gets harassed by two hunters before a stranger named Ben enters the picture. At first, he seems like a pretty helpful guy because he even gives her a few directions so that she can read Grand Isle Narrows.
However, things go south when Sasha comes to realize that someone has stolen her belongings. When she later finds Ben living in that very same area, she learns that he was the man behind the loot. This is when, in Netflix’s Apex, Ben reveals that he has been studying her and gives her a terrifying head start before hunting her down.
From cries for help to traps and a horrifying cave full of victims, Sasha realizes she is dealing with a serial killer and that she has to make use of her survival skills to fight Ben back.

1) Charlize Theron as Sasha:
Charlize Theron plays Sasha in Apex. She is a skilled climber, but after the death of her husband Tommy, she starts to carry a lot of guilt as he also died while they were on a rock climbing trip, and hence, she blames herself for his death.
Her trip to Australia is her trying to deal with her grief, but instead, she ends up in another threatening situation altogether. Most of the film, she’s someone who is physically injured (because of the situations around her) exhausted, and she’s also constantly on the run.

2) Taron Egerton as Ben
Taron Egerton plays Ben, the serial killer in Apex. At first, he comes across as a pretty normal guy, but when he shows his true colors? The man is unhinged.
Ben knows the wilderness better than anyone else, which gives him an upper hand to be the unhinged man that he is. He carefully studies all of his victims and tracks their moves and he enjoys making them feel hopeless.

3) Eric Bana as Tommy
Eric Bana plays Tommy, Sasha’s husband. Even though he ends up dying within the first few minutes of Apex, his death is the reason why Sasha decides to travel to Australia.

Apex on Netflix has a really small cast, but it makes do with it perfectly well. Charlize Theron leads the thriller, while Taron Egerton gives us a big twist to handle and Eric Bana’s character dying sets off a chain of unfortunate events for his wife to deal with.
For a thriller that is based on the themes of grief and the mind games from a serial killer, the Netflix film knows exactly what it wants to do with the overall plot and its tiny cast.
