Dame Helen Mirren is an actress, writer and producer from London, England. The 80-year-old icon began her career on the stage in 1966, before achieving mainstream success on television and in feature films. Though she is likely best known for her Oscar-winning portrayal of Elizabeth II in 2006’s The Queen, she has left a mark on audiences in various roles over the course of her illustrious career. Mirren has won several accolades over that timespan including an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award.
In the latest news about the Fast & Furious franchise actress, Helen Mirren has been embroiled in a growing controversy from the set of one of her on-going television projects, MobLand. While filming for the series’ second season is complete, reports of issues on set with her co-star Tom Hardy have gone viral, with reports suggesting his antics have caused a rift within the cast, and have left the show’s third season hanging in the balance.
Neither Mirren nor Hardy made any public comments on the situation until the actress took to Instagram on May 28 with a post supporting her co-star. She uploaded a headshot of Hardy accompanied by the following caption,
“Love you now and always.”
While the future of their show is uncertain, Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy will appear in MobLand season 2, which will be available to stream on Paramount+ later in 2026.
Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy’s alleged feud – Timeline, and more
For a deeper understanding of the reported tension between Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy, the full context of the situation is vital. Stories of Hardy’s alleged on-set antics initially leaked when an insider reported to the Daily Mail that Mirren was,
“Getting increasingly frustrated with Tom and his attitude. He can be late to filming too and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined. His tone is something Dame Helen doesn’t like, along with his lateness.”
The source added that Mirren felt that Hardy “swaggers around like a king” on set and “is very, very arrogant.”
Subsequently, sources told Variety that Hardy was let go from the production over his tensions with the cast and crew on May 22. However, less than a week later, on May 28, another source shared with Variety that,
“Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively.”
This comes after reports that English filmmaking icon Guy Ritchie reportedly stepped in behind the scenes to smooth over the tensions on set.
In other news, while Deadline reports that Helen Mirren will star alongside Olivia Cooke in the upcoming Switzerland (currently in production), a release date for the film has yet to be finalised.
