The opening night of Heavy Crownz’s “You Can Grow Here” art exhibition at HOSTE on November 23, 2025 brought together art, community, and South Side pride for an unforgettable launch. Hosted by Tanya Lozano and Sherm Dilla, with music curated by DJ Cymba, the event set the tone for a season celebrating transformation and the creative power rooted in Englewood. The exhibition marks the first chapter leading into the release of Heavy Crownz’s debut album Trench Baby Turned Farmer, arriving at the top of 2026.
From the moment the doors opened, the space at 1857 W. 16th St. felt alive with energy. Heavy Crownz and The Growers delivered a performance that echoed the spirit of his message: growth is possible wherever you stand. That idea drove the entire installation. “You Can Grow Here,” as he explained to rolling out, reflects the belief that every environment holds the potential for transformation. “Whatever environment that you’re in, you have the ability to grow from there,” he said.
The exhibition walked guests through four eras of Heavy Crownz’s life, blending visuals, artifacts, music, and memory. It served as an immersive narrative showing the journey from trench life to intentional self-development.
One of the most talked-about pieces featured a collection of Englewood artists. Heavy Crownz shared why the neighborhood continues to produce such strong creative voices. “Inglewood just has a spirit of resilience and imagination,” he said. “That’s the kind of talent I always want to honor.” That acknowledgment reinforced the exhibition’s purpose: to celebrate South Side brilliance and preserve the stories that shaped him.
When the conversation shifted to which piece represented him best, he made it clear that the work is inseparable from his identity. “All of them. It’s a combination. I can’t even pick one,” he said, underscoring how each part of the installation contributes to a full portrait of his journey.
When asked what it means to grow, he said it “means to keep changing, keep checking yourself and questioning yourself. Make sure that you’re looking for the work to get the desires that you ask for.”
“You Can Grow Here” stands as an inspiring testament to Chicago’s South Side creativity and sets the stage for Trench Baby Turned Farmer as Heavy Crownz prepares for a powerful 2026.
