He-Man creator Roger Sweet dies at 91, wife asks studio to dedicate new movie to husband and co-creator Mark Taylor

Marlene Sweet, the wife of He-Man creator Roger Sweet, has asked Amazon MGM Studios to dedicate the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe to her husband.

A friend of Marlene passed a message which was shared by Battle Ram Blog & He-Man.Org through Facebook. It read:

“I am only posting this as she asked me to do so. Marlene has asked that if anyone can, please try to reach out or post to the studios/actors doing the new movie to ask that they dedicate it to both Roger and Mark Taylor. It would be a nice way to honor them both. Thank you.”

Sweet, the Mattel toy designer, has passed away at the age of 91. He played a key role in developing the Masters of the Universe toy line in the 1980s. His death occurred at the memory care facility in the Pacific Northwest following a prolonged and difficult struggle with dementia.

Details explored as Roger Sweet passes away at the age of 91

Roger Sweet’s health had been declining for the past several years due to his cognitive condition. His condition reportedly worsened in early 2026 after he suffered a fall while walking alone.

When he returned home, he appeared confused and displayed severe bruising on his side. He could not remember how he got himself injured. His wife, Marlene, rushed him to an emergency room, where tests revealed two brain bleeds, resulting in an admission to the ICU.

Sweet had been married to his wife, Marlene, for 40 years. The couple resided in Lake Stevens, Washington. It is not known whether they had any children together.

Many in the Masters of the Universe (MOTU) fan community have supported Marlene Sweet’s idea of honoring her husband and Mark Taylor. On her behalf, they have been requesting Amazon MGM studios to include a dedication to both Roger Sweet and Mark Taylor in the new Masters of the Universe film, which will be released in June 2026.

A fan wrote on X:

“91 years and he built a universe that fueled every 80s kid’s imagination. He-Man wasn’t just toys it was epic battles teaching good vs evil before we even knew what that meant. RIP Roger, legends like you stick around forever.”

Another fan added:

“Rest in peace, Roger Sweet. Thank you for creating such an iconic character and bringing so much joy to generations. Your legacy will live on forever.”

Marlene has previously shared that she faced difficulties in successfully making contact with the producers of the upcoming film. She shared the same in a March 30 update on her GoFundMe page, where she wrote:

“I am having no luck in my goal to reach the producers of the forthcoming He-Man and Masters movie, which is due out June 5. It would be so appropriate if they would dedicate this movie to Roger as the creator of He-Man, and also to Mark Taylor, who created Skelator. If any of you know of a way to get this request to the correct people it would be wonderful.”

Marlene created a GoFundMe campaign in early February titled Support Roger Sweet, Creator of HE-MAN to help cover the high cost of her husband’s memory care.
