HBO CEO gives a discouraging update on The Penguin Season 2

If you have been waiting for an update on The Penguin Season 2, then don’t miss out on the recent update shared by HBO CEO, Casey Bloys. When asked if Colin Farrell would return as OZ in a second installment of the series, the CEO didn’t give a clear answer.

Casey Bloys mentioned that Farrell will appear in The Batman: Part II, which is another anticipated project. So fans who have been wondering about the second season of the HBO series must temper their expectations.

While Bloys didn’t completely shut the door on a second season entirely, he also didn’t give a direct answer. Currently, the focus is on the upcoming film that will bring back Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight.

Interestingly, Pattinson recently shared that the movie is going to be amazing and that “It’s taking some big swings” in a conversation with Deadline. The Twilight actor himself was surprised to see how the story would progress and suggested that it is going to be interesting.

More details below.

HBO CEO Casey Bloys hints The Penguin Season 2 isn’t coming anytime soon

In a recent interview, HBO CEO Casey Bloys was asked whether Colin Farrell is making a return in a potential The Penguin Season 2. He said:

“Colin is going to be in the [“The Batman: Part II”] movie. He’s got other movies going on. [..] I would say it’s certainly complicated, but something everybody involved would like to figure out. I just don’t know.”

One of the reasons why The Penguin was a big hit is Colin Farrell. The actor underwent a huge transformation with heavy prosthetics to portray OZ, and his acting skills added to the intensity of the character.

And after the finale of Season 1, fans badly want to see him return in The Penguin Season 2. However, Casey Bloys’s recent comment explains that the actor has a packed schedule as he is currently focused on appearing in The Batman: Part II. On top of that, Farrell is also involved in multiple other film projects, making his availability even more limited.

This creates a practical challenge. A series like The Penguin cannot move forward without its main character. And since Farrell is already working on some projects, taking on more projects will only complicate things.

Additionally, the franchise as big as DC requires the story to align. And since Farrell’s OZ will appear in Pattinson’s movie, the story should align with The Penguin Season 2, if the creators decide to make one.

The focus is on the second Batman movie, and as explained before, Robert Pattinson has given an exciting update:

“The script is extraordinary. I think it’s going to be a really, really, really special movie. And very, very different to… even from the last one.”

The actor continued:

“I was reading it going like, ‘Oh wow! Okay!’ It’s going to be interesting seeing it come out. It’s taking some big swings.”

In the second film, which is scheduled for a 2027 release, the story will follow Bruce Wayne’s inner struggles and his public role in a more divided Gotham after the Riddler’s chaos and the events of The Penguin. A new villain will show up, and so will new alliances.

We’ll keep fans updated if there’s any new update on The Penguin Season 2.
