Has Law & Order been renewed for Season 26? NBC series fate revealed

NBC’s hit police procedural drama, Law & Order, will be back for Season 26 as per an exclusive report by Deadline. The makers or the cast are yet to make an official announcement of the renewal. According to Deadline, the renewal announcement will happen this week, a couple of days before NBC unleashes the 2026 fall lineup. NBC is set to present its 2026-27 schedule on May 11.

Law & Order Season 26 will not be the finale season, as per reports. This police procedural series, which later turned into a successful franchise head, premiered on September 13, 1990. It has already run for more than three and a half decades. However, it wasn’t always a smooth ride. It went on an 11-year hiatus, and only in September 2021, NBC picked it up for a revival series with a fresh cast, along with two veterans characters, Detective Kevin and Detective Jack.

The show since then has been renewed each year and has not left the viewers disappointed. With a dedicated fan following and steady viewership, the long-running show’s future looks promising.

Law & Order renewed for Season 26

Buck up! Law and Order fans, the long-running police procedural show has been renewed for a fresh season. Yes, the series is coming back for Season 26, and as per reports, it is not the finale. However, th show will be undergoing some budget cuts. The details have been under wraps as of now.

Previously, NBC announced the renewal of Law & Order: SVU starring Mariska Hargitay for Season 28. Apart from its sustainable budget, the show has consistently made its way to the NBC Top 10 charts. Law & Order, however, still lags in the charts.

However, the linear viewership remains steady. Brilliant Minds has already been cancelled after two seasons owing to its declining viewership. It became the lowest-rated drama despite having a primetime slot. However, the show is expected to release its remaining six episodes after its hiatus from May 27. Apart from that, Stumble, the mockumentary, has also been cancelled.

The show was able to find its footing even after its revival and major cast shake-up. The potential release date or plot remains under wraps as of now. Law & Order Season 25 finale episode titled, Liberty is all set to drop on May 14, 2026, on NBC. The finale will also be available to stream on Peacock shortly after the broadcast.

The series usually streams every Thursday at 8 PM ET on NBC and is available to stream on Peacock the next day onwards. It is quite likely that the upcoming season will also follow the same schedule pattern with fresh episodes released every Thursday. Maura Tierney, David Ajala, Odelya Halevy, Reid Scott, and Connie Shi are the potential cast lineup for the upcoming season. However, there might be a few cast shakeups due to the potential budget cuts.
