Redknapp, 78, was well aware of the stage as he hailed Kempton races as the “Champions League”.

He likened his horses’ rivals to those of Real Madrid and Barcelona but it was his that won.

The Jukebox Man was battling leader Il Est Francais for much of the race as he was stuck in second.

But with just three fences to go, he surged into the lead to take first place by a nose.

The stunning victory has given Redknapp a late Christmas present with a large amount of prize money.

The former Tottenham and West Ham manager has pocketed a £142,375 cash prize.

Speaking ahead of the race, Redknapp said: “It’s like going into the Champions League.

“You look at the teams that are still in it and you think, my God.

“But you still think you’ve got a chance and you’re dreaming that you could go all the way and win it.”
