Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

The upcoming Greta Gerwig-directed film, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, is going to be Netflix’s first film to get a theatrical release. The film is based on The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis and will show us how the world of Narnia was created.

While The Magician’s Nephew is the sixth novel of the The Chronicles of Narnia series, it is chronologically the first one in the story. The film will be released both in theatres and on Netflix. Here’s all you need to know about the Sony-Netflix distribution team-up.

Sony-Netflix distribution team-up for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew explained

While many Netflix films have done well over the years, none of them have received theatrical releases. Directed and written by Greta Gerwig, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is thus the first Netflix film to be released in theatres. Sony Pictures Releasing International will be handling the theatrical release distribution, and Netflix will make it available for streaming worldwide.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will get a theatrical release on February 12, 2027, by Sony. Audiences will be given quite some time to watch the film in theaters, and experience it in IMAX. After approximately two months, the film will be released on Netflix on April 2, 2027. A few sneak previews of the film will take place only in IMAX theaters from February 10, 2027.

Thus, if one were a fan of the books and the film franchise, they would get enough time to watch the film in theaters. For people who can’t go to the theaters, or prefer streaming from home, they will be able to stream the film on Netflix from April 2, 2026.
