Things have started to take a U-turn in Absolute Value of Romance episodes 9-10. While Eui-ju was not a fan of Woo-su because of the pressure he was putting her under, after the last episode, where he gave her the pass to write her novels however she wants to write them, Eui-ju has started seeing Woo-su from a different perspective.
In Episodes 9-10, Eui-ju is seen fangirling over Woo-su. However, Go-ya, her best friend, thinks that Eui-ju is interested in the literature teacher, and she clearly does not like it. She even stops talking to her at one point.
The episodes also introduce a new character, Deul-i, who won the Fields Medal. But Eui-ju seems to be worried about Woo-su and Deul-i’s bond after seeing them spending time together in the cafe.
She tries getting further information on who Deul-i is and what her history is. However, Woo-su, after seeing her change in behavior, tells Eui-ju that if she doesn’t score above fifty in math, he will tell her parents about her novel. The episode ends with Eui-ju learning that Woo-su might leave for the United States to continue his research.
Absolute Value of Romance Episode 9 recap: Eui-ju’s perspective changes towards Woo-su
In the Absolute Value of Romance Episode 9, Eui-ju’s mother considers reaching out to Woo-su to thank him, as he carried her when she fell sick. However, Eui-ju changes her mind by saying no. Unlike other times, this time Eui-ju doesn’t speak badly of him and tells her mother that he is not rude and is good at heart.
On the other side, Eui-ju thinks she has been manipulated to think that Woo-su is a good guy. She even waits outside Woo-su’s home in the morning, only for her to know that Woo-su has already left for school.
Later in school, she decides to open up to her best friend, Go-ya, about the same. She tells her that she used to love fangirling characters but is now falling for someone, hinting at Woo-su. However, Go-ya misunderstands her confession and assumes that Eui-ju has feelings for the PE teacher.
Absolute Value of Romance Episode 9: Go-ya gets the wrong idea about Eui-ju’s crush
While Eui-ju is drawn towards Woo-su, Go-ya, after coming to know that it’s not the PE teacher, starts believing that she was talking about Yoon after seeing the literature teacher and her together. During the conversation, Eui-ju also told her that she can’t like this person whom she is falling for. This statement makes her believe that it’s none other than the literature teacher.
She decides to ask Eui-ju directly about the same. While Eui-ju makes it clear that it’s not Yoon, she doesn’t reveal the name at the same time, which leaves Go-ya suspicious and upset. Eui-ju, in her defense, asks Go-ya to trust her, and Go-ya leaves from there.
Absolute Value of Romance Episode 10 recap: Eui-ju gets jealous of Woo-su’s friend, Deul-i
In Absolute Value of Romance, Eui-ju visits a cafe and sees Woo-su meeting a woman there. Within a few minutes, even a colleague of Woo-su shows up at the cafe and is shocked to see Woo-su with a woman whom he later identifies as Deul-i, the winner of the Fields Medal.
Eui-ju also introduces herself to Deul-i as Woo-su’s student and asks if she is her college friend out of curiosity. Deul-i tells her that she is a middle school friend of Woo-su.
At the same time, even the Japanese teacher grows curious about why Deul-i suddenly came to meet Woo-su. He believed that both of them met during the Olympiad, dated, and broke up.
Eui-ju, out of frustration, imagines herself being kidnapped and rescued by Woo-su while making Deul-i a villain. It is later revealed that Woo-su and Deul-i only met at the café to discuss a joint research project, as they planned to study the topology of algebraic curves and surfaces together.
The episode also shows Ji-a arriving late to class, smelling of alcohol, and with visible bruises on her hand. The principal tells Woo-su that she doesn’t fit in the school. Though Woo-su fights for her and asks Ji-a to be presentable.
Absolute Value of Romance Episode 10 ends with Eui-ju going out to buy a Coke for her brother and accidentally hearing Yoon talking to Woo-su about him going to the States and doing the research on the topic, leaving her shocked.
