Burton put his advice in a caption, with a video of himself sitting in his car talking about its key points. The caption read: “So we have to stop beating ourselves up. Don’t beat yourself up. I know it’s easier said than done, but man, this is probably gonna resonate with a lot of people because I coach a lot of people, and this is something I struggled with myself for a long time, was beating myself up. If I had a falter or a misstep, I would beat myself up, and then you would feel guilty about it and then you wouldn’t do anything positive for yourself.”

Burton continued, “But you have to show yourself some grace. You have to show yourself some kindness. You have to forgive yourself just like you would forgive others. That’s why these positive habits daily are so important. You can learn to stop beating yourself up.”

Fans share their own advice

Burton’s Instagram followers weighed in on the advice, saying they could use it in their daily lives and thanking him for the reminder. Instagram user julesann5 said, “This is hard. I seem to self-sabotage and I don’t know how to stop that.” GH fan phyllisdilucca said, “Thank you for your encouragement, you gave me hope by the way we all miss you on GH.”

The fan authorbarbaranolan chimed in, saying, “I would never say to anyone the things that I think about myself, and if anybody ever said to me what I say to myself, we would no longer be friends.”

Another user, rosie_girl_94, added that struggling with being self-critical starts early in life, saying, “I have always beaten myself up, even as a child…this needs to stop NOW!!” sweetchefsweets agreed, noting, “Something I do every day. Am I doing the right thing? Am I saying the right thing? Unfortunately, when it’s drilled into [you] as a child, then all of a sudden BAM I’m blaming myself for everything!”

A few Instagram users shared deeply personal stories from their own experiences, grateful that the GH star is giving them an outlet. Other recent inspirational Burton posts include being uncomfortable with change and getting motivated to change.

Burton has been in New York with his wife, Michelle Lundstrom, and family in recent weeks during his hiatus from GH.
