The beloved post apocalyptic game receives a meaningful storage expansion.
More than a decade after its original release, Fallout 4 continues to hold a devoted fanbase and Bethesda is making sure the experience keeps getting better. The studio rolled out a new update for the game’s Anniversary Edition, delivering a significant expansion to Creations storage across every platform, alongside six targeted fixes for some of the most persistent issues players have encountered.
For anyone who has spent hours building out their ideal load order only to run into space limitations, this update may come as a genuine relief.
What changed with storage across platforms
The update’s headlining feature is a sweeping expansion of how much space players have for downloaded Creations content. The changes vary by platform, and it helps to know exactly what applies to your setup.
On Xbox, Xbox One players now have access to up to 15 GB of Creations storage, while Xbox Series X and S owners benefit from a growable storage option that can reach up to 100 GB. There is one important note for Xbox users: installed Creations will be cleared on first launch following the update. Players will need to re download their content either by restoring a saved load order through the Creations menu or by loading a game save made after the Anniversary Edition launched on Nov. 10, 2025.
PlayStation 5 players have a smoother transition. Storage has been expanded to approximately 15 GB, and all installed Creations are preserved after the update no action required.
PlayStation 4 owners get the most nuanced changes. Storage expands to approximately 16 GB, but due to the technical specifics of the console’s hardware architecture, the download size of a Creation may not match the space it actually occupies once installed. Players may notice the storage usage appearing larger than expected when browsing their Creations, and those who have a large number of hefty Creations installed may run into a practical cap based on how the platform’s storage partitions are structured.
The 6 bugs Bethesda addressed in this patch
Beyond storage, the update takes aim at a handful of nagging issues that had been affecting gameplay quality across platforms.
The first fix resolves an infinite loading screen that could appear when signing into the Creations menu using an account already linked to another platform account a frustrating loop that left some players stuck.
The second fix addresses a crash on PlayStation that could occur when a player downloaded a Creation and then navigated back to the main menu mid download.
Third, an issue where selecting the option to download all Creations in a player‘s library could unexpectedly fail and return them to the title screen has been corrected.
Fourth, PC players who encountered a false error message claiming there was not enough space to install the Bunker Home Pack despite having adequate disk space will no longer see that problem.
Fifth, the Enclave Remnants Creation, which could sometimes fail to properly spawn its associated characters and objects depending on where a player was in their progression, has been adjusted to behave more reliably.
Sixth and finally, a UI issue where the text LOOKUP FAILED! appeared in place of Commonwealth across interface elements including the Pip Boy map and door transition screens has been resolved.
Why this update matters for longtime fans
Fallout 4 was first released on Nov. 10, 2015, and its Anniversary Edition brought a new wave of players and content to the game in late 2025. Updates like this one reflect Bethesda’s continued commitment to maintaining the experience for a community that has stayed loyal across generations of hardware.
For players who have been holding off on downloading certain Creations due to storage constraints, now is a reasonable time to revisit that decision particularly on Xbox Series X and S, where the new growable storage ceiling opens up considerably more flexibility than before.
