Essence Fest 2026 just dropped its most exciting lineup yet

The Essence Festival of Culture, presented by Coca-Cola, has revealed its full daytime programming lineup for 2026, and it is one of the most ambitious the festival has ever assembled. Taking place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans from July 3 through 5, the daytime events span film premieres, wellness experiences, culinary showcases, beauty programming, literary conversations, and cultural activations designed to celebrate Black excellence across every dimension.

General doors open at 10:00 a.m. CT on Friday, July 3, with Convention Center VIP ticket holders receiving expedited entry beginning at 9:00 a.m. CT. Daytime programming is free with registration through the E360 app and is separate from Evening Concert Series tickets.

Major film premieres and exclusive screenings headline the slate

This year’s daytime programming opens with several highly anticipated film moments that alone make the trip to New Orleans worth considering.

Prime Video is bringing first looks at three upcoming projects. 1. Ride or Die, 2. Neagley, and 3. The Greatest, the forthcoming Muhammad Ali biopic from Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society production company. Talent expected to participate includes Octavia Spencer, Maria Sten, Michael Ealy, Jaalen Best, Dana Gourrier, Amin Joseph, Kai Parham and creator Ben Watkins.

Disney is also showing up in a big way, delivering an exclusive look at FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga alongside a conversation with cast members Gail Bean, Isaiah John, Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith and Simmie “Buddy” Simms III. Disney will also host the world premiere screening of season four of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

Essence Film Festival spotlights emerging and established filmmakers

The Essence Film Festival received more than 600 submissions from filmmakers around the world this year, underscoring its growing reputation as a premier platform for Black cinema. The curated slate includes narrative features, documentaries, social impact stories, short films and the increasingly popular microdrama format.

Highlights from the film festival lineup include A Portrait of a Postman featuring Tina Knowles, Please Return Your Cart executive produced by Issa Rae, ChikaBOOM! starring Yara Shahidi, Funny Feelings featuring Mack Wilds and Pretty Vee among others, FreeLance starring KevOnStage and Spence Moore II, and Switches featuring Sinqua Walls. Sanaa Lathan will also participate in the Essence Film Festival Pitch Competition.

Keke Palmer leads wellness programming and beauty takes center stage

New to this year’s festival is Unbothered and Well, a dedicated wellness destination featuring conversations and programming centered on women’s health, mental health, self-advocacy and healing. Keke Palmer will lead a Practice by Palmer mat pilates session as part of the programming, bringing her wellness brand directly to festival attendees in an interactive format.

On the beauty side, BEAUTYCON at Essence Fest Edition returns with appearances from LaLa Anthony, Stormi Steele, Tokyo Vanity and more, offering beauty insiders and fans elevated experiences throughout the weekend.

Food, books, cars and community complete the picture

Chef Nina Compton returns as curator of the Essence Food and Wine Festival, bringing live culinary demonstrations, competitive cooking moments and conversations rooted in Black food culture. The lineup includes Mychel “Snoop” Dillard, Raven Goodwin, Sonja Norwood of WickdConfections and others.

The Book Festival, curated by Nikole Hannah-Jones for non-fiction and Mara Brock Akil for fiction, features appearances from Tiffany D. Cross, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Jamilah Lemieux, Tayari Jones and Ayana Gray among others.
