The New York Giants may be on the verge of welcoming back one of the most talented, polarizing and storied players in franchise history.
Today, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. visited the Giants’ facility for a physical and workout, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, setting off a wave of speculation that a full reunion could be imminent. Here are five essential things to know about what is quickly becoming one of the most discussed stories in the NFL.
The Harbaugh connection is driving this
The reunion talk did not appear out of nowhere. New Giants head coach John Harbaugh coached Beckham Jr. during his 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, and the two have maintained a widely reported friendship ever since. The pair met as recently as last month at the NFL league meetings in Arizona, and Harbaugh has been openly vocal about staying in regular contact with the wide receiver. That existing trust and chemistry could be a significant factor in whether a deal ultimately gets done.

OBJ’s Giants legacy is undeniable
Few players have ever arrived in New York the way Beckham Jr. did. Drafted 12th overall in 2014, he earned three consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2014 to 2016 and won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in his debut season. Over five seasons with the Giants, he accumulated 5,476 receiving yards, 390 catches and 44 receiving touchdowns, building a legacy that made him one of the most beloved players in team history before a 2019 trade to the Cleveland Browns brought it all to an abrupt end.
His career since leaving New York has been complicated
After 29 games with the Browns, Beckham Jr. was waived in November 2021 and signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals but tore his ACL for the second time during that very game, costing him the entire 2022 season. A strong 2023 campaign with the Ravens, which included 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns, offered renewed hope.
The 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins, however, produced just nine catches for 55 yards in nine games. He did not play in 2025, sitting out due in part to a suspension.
The real question is whether he still has anything left
At 33, Beckham Jr. carries both an extraordinary resume and a genuine cloud of uncertainty. His career totals of 575 catches, 7,987 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns are impressive by any measure, and at his peak he was the kind of receiver who could genuinely change the outcome of a game. With two torn ACLs and limited production in recent seasons, however, the gap between his peak and his present is impossible to ignore.
The Giants are building around young quarterback Jaxson Dart, and it remains to be seen whether Beckham Jr. fits as a productive contributor or simply a familiar name in a depth role.
A Hall of Fame path interrupted
Perhaps the most compelling part of this story is what could have been. Before injuries and distractions altered the course of his career, Beckham Jr. was broadly seen as a player on a firm trajectory toward Canton. A return to the team where he first made his name would give him one more chance to write a more fitting ending, and if the physical checks out and both sides can agree on terms, that opportunity may arrive sooner than anyone expected.
