Bunnie Xo is sharing new insight into her split from Jelly Roll, giving an honest account of what she calls the nature of their marriage before the divorce papers were filed.
In the recent Dumb Blonde podcast episode, Bunnie Xo, or Alisa DeFord, felt that she shouldered more emotional burden within her relationship with the country singer.
“We stopped communicating together in the past year and a half. And I think it’s safe for me to say that I always loved my husband a little bit more than he loved me.”
The podcast host revealed that she had been mostly concerned about the welfare of Jelly Roll, or Jason Bradley DeFord.
“I was always protecting him and always making sure he was okay, and always chasing him. I literally was the glue that held us together, and that’s not me taking a shot in any way. That’s me being just 100% honest.”
Why Bunnie Xo stopped chasing Jelly Roll
The social media personality explained stated that as more time went by, it became clear to her that it was she who was working hard and acting as the glue in the relationship when things got tough.
According to Bunnie Xo, this created a pattern where she was consistently giving more attention and emotional energy than she received.
One example she admitted was that she claimed she was the “chaser” in the relationship, a dynamic where she felt she was constantly trying to maintain balance and connection.
“I was always the chaser. In a twin flame relationship—because Jay and I are twin flames and soulmates—there’s a runner, and there’s a chaser. He’s the runner, I’m the chaser.”
Bunnie Xo said she eventually made the decision to step back from that role when she felt the effort between them was no longer equal.
The podcast host added that her decision to stop “chasing” came after recognizing that they were no longer aligned in how they approached their relationship or their emotional needs.
“So in this past year and a half, because I felt like he wasn’t pouring into me and I wasn’t pouring into him and we just weren’t communicating, we just weren’t on the same page, I stopped chasing him. And when I say I stopped chasing him, I mean I stopped everything and just kind of went into myself and was dealing with a lot of depression and dealing with these losses by myself.”
Jelly Roll speaks out
Bunnie Xo’s revelations come after Jelly Roll also spoke for the first time since filing for divorce from his wife of ten years. Amidst his show in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Son of a Sinner hitmaker told the audience:
“I wasn’t gonna talk about this tonight, but while we’re talking about liars, the internet is a liar, too! It’s the only time and the only city I’m gonna speak about this, so break your camera phones out now. Me and my wife are best friends, we will always be best friends. We just got off the phone earlier today. Nobody cheated on nobody; she just did a whole podcast about it. You can go watch it. Every word of it is the truth. That will be my best friend forever. This is the only time I will ever speak about it.”
Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo’s break up shook the internet when it was announced on June 15 that the country music artist had filed for divorce from his podcasting spouse earlier in May. Soon after, media outlets reported that court documents stated irreconcilable differences led to their breakup.
The former couple first met and tied the knot in 2016. Together, they raised his two children, Bailee Ann (born in 2008) and Noah Buddy (born in 2016, from previous relationships.
Meanwhile, despite the divorce filing, Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo remain committed to the kids and will continue with their plans to have a child using a surrogate and their previously started IVF journey.
