Season 2 of Boston Blue is turning out to be bigger than anyone had expected. Sonequa Martin-Green recently spoke to Collider about what lies ahead in the second half of season 1, teasing that the next episodes will take the show both bigger emotionally and narratively.
Sonequa plays the character Lena, the law enforcement officer, and her comment confirms that the fanbase should anticipate shocks, excitement, and maybe even big moments. This is also a suggestion of confidence from cast and creators that they believe the show is about to really hit its stride, that they will find action-heavy stories that will tie into rich, character-based plots.
Here is what she said exactly about the upcoming episodes of Boston Blue.
How Boston Blue’s Sonequa Martin-Green hints at an exciting “second half” of Season 1

Sonequa Martin-Green, while speaking with Collider, has confirmed that Boston Blue is only intensifying the stakes till it explodes in the finale. She hinted that the narrative will be more nuanced in the coming episodes, definitely:
“It is. Especially coming back from the holiday break, I think that people are going to be pretty knocked back by the size and scope and depth of the stories in the second half of the season.”
The reference to “size and scope” makes us think of bigger, more complicated cases, possibly with more players, more locations, or more fallout. Yet, “depth” also indicates more emotional tales, probably venturing further into the personal lives, relationships, and ethical dilemmas of characters:
“We’ve got a long way to go, and there are more stories to tell in Season 2. We’re so grateful that we’re going to be coming back. But we cover a lot in Season 1, so I’m excited to see where we go from here.”
By thinking about Boston Blue season two, her comment shows a certain amount of faith in the story arc for the long term. But it also reassures us that Season 1 isn’t pulling punches; the writers are throwing a lot of stuff at us in the hopes that they end up saving some for later.
That means that the series’s finale episodes will very likely include big new antagonists, new relationships, and maybe even some curveballs that toss the entire narrative one way or another for a while.
The actress also addressed what Lena is like outside work in Boston Blue, probably during a day off:
“I would say that it would be great to see what Detective Lena Silver’s self-care day looks like. People who work these kinds of jobs, it’s survival. It is imperative that they check out and decompress. We talk about it a little bit in the story. We talk about the things that we do when we’re on our off days, and I love that you do get to see these people in their off times.”
Therefore, Sonequa is excited to see where her character arc grows from here, and this belief is somewhat relieving for the fans, too, coming from someone who is the face of the show with major narrative arcs woven to her character.
