Vincent D’Onofrio appeared as a detective in Law & Order: Criminal Intent before becoming famous as the villain in Daredevil: Born Again. Today, episode 6 of Daredevil: Born Again has been released. He spoke about his time on the former series in a recent interview with GQ. He said that joining the series was a big move since it was his first major role on TV.
Initially he was unsure about the job. However, after reading Rene Balcer’s script, he changed his mind. He explained that the writing was so strong that it convinced him to sign on. In the Law & Order spin-off series, he played the lead role as Detective Robert Goren, the first-grade investigator in the New York City Police Department’s major case squad. Fans of Law & Order know him by the name of Bobby.
D’Onofrio appeared in one hundred and forty one episodes across the show’s ten season run. He returned for the final season after he left as a series regular after Season 9. In Law & Order: Criminal, he is popular for his extreme reliance and intelligence on psychology rather than just physical evidence to identify perpetrators and induce confessions.
D’Onofrio worked as Bobby in Law & Order: Criminal Intent
The Daredevil: Born Again star Vincent D’Onofrio worked as Bobby in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. During a recent interview at GQ Magazine he shared his debut experience and said:
“Dick Wolf asked me if I would be interested in doing some television. I’d only done a couple of guest star things when I was much younger, so I really didn’t know much about television at all, especially as one of the leads on his show.”
The Daredevil: Born Again actor said that working on the Law & Order spin-off felt like a great job because the series stood out from other Law & Order series. In this version, the stories often ended with detectives pushing suspects to confess during tough interrogation scenes. He admired the strong writing and the unique style of the show.
At the same time, he admitted that he did not enjoy the long filming days that came with the role. He also said:
“It was exhausting for co-star Kate Erbe and I. It was a lot of hours… We basically averaged about 17 hours a day, every day, for 10 months a year. So that was tough. You know, I hated that. And I’m glad it’s really not allowed. Nobody’s allowed to do that anymore with actors.”
He added:
“I left that show a better actor than I was before when I went in. There was so much dialogue to learn all the time. There were so many weird transitions that I had to make within one scene… I don’t think I would have evolved like I did if it wasn’t for that show.”
