Born Again Season 2? Speculations explored

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 5 did what fans were expecting since the ending of the last week’s episode. However, the episode did not begin with the death of Vanessa Fisk as many expected. Instead, she died in the closing minutes. Unlike her comic book counterpart, Vanessa’s death is set to stick in this series, and it hints at the downfall of Wilson Fisk as he would try to increase his grip of New York in the upcoming three episodes.

But Vanessa’s death in the fifth episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has some fans hoping that MCU will re-introduce love intrerest for Fisk from the comics: Typhoid Mary. For the uninitiated, Iron Fist Season 2 already introduced us to Mary Walker, an ex-soldier with dissociative identity disorder. As of now, it is unclear if Tyhoid Mary is back or not, because, the status of the character remains uncertain.

Will Mary Walker return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 or a future season?

Iron Fist Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger as Mary’s third personality surfaced to cause trouble. Since then, this version of Typhoid Mary, played by Alice Eve, may have not been permenant, as Erik Oleson, who served as the showrunner of Daredevil Season 3 revealed that the fourth season would re-introduced a whole new version of the supervillain:

“The Season 4 I had planned was quite different. It was a Typhoid Mary story. It was going to go into a different direction. And then I was going to circle back to the Bullseye storyline in Season 5. I was starting to plan out future seasons and what we would do, kind of a long arc. And then, of course, Netflix and Marvel broke up because Disney+ wanted Marvel.”

It should be noted that in the comics, Typhoid Mary was introduced as a Daredevil villain and not Iron Fist. But, Marvel Studios has a chance to bring back Alice Eve to reprise her role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 or even Season 3. However, it should also be noted even if the Kingpin and Typhoid Mary are a couple sometimes in the comics, it may not work in the MCU, given the large age-gap between the actors.

If the writers want to go the Typhoid Mary and Kingpin romance route, they could take a page off Oleson idea and recast the character with an actress who is close to Vincent D’Onofrio’s age. Even if Marvel is not keen on introducing a new love interest for Fisk, introducing Typhoid Mary should be helpful in setting up the Mutant Saga, as the character is also a mutant in the comics.

The Iron Fist Season 2 writers stripped Typhoid Mary of her mutant powers as Marvel did not own the rights to X-Men at that time. However, now that Marvel owns the rights to X-Men, they are free to use these characters, and even use the word “Mutant”.

Typhoid Mary COULD return in the MCU given Iron Fist is back:

While three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are still left, the production team has already filming the third season. We already know that Mike Colter and Finn Jones are back in their respective roles in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. Therefore, Marvel has an opportunity to bring back or rebooted in the MCU.

Do you think that we will hear Typhoid Mary being namedropped in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
