Born Again Bullseye star Wilson Bethel opens up about the diner scene and playing the anti-hero character

Wilson Bethel has been playing Bullseye for four seasons now, and in Daredevil: Born Again season 2’s fourth episode, he gets to do something absolutely unhinged. We’re talking, of course, about the diner scene, and how chaotic it was and how it leans into how warped Bullseye’ sense of morality is.

Speaking to Collider, the actor opened up on how this season of Daredevil: Born Again we get to see a completely different side of Bullseye as he sets out to redeem himself as he stated,

“One of the things that I think is really special and fun and funny and just wild about this season is this is a very different Bullseye than we’ve ever seen before — very different Dex than we’ve seen before — because he has a bit of a lightness about him, because he feels like he’s on this righteous mission to redeem himself. He has a really clear idea in his mind that he is balancing the scales, and so that gives him almost this lightness, almost like a joy to him. “

He then continued to talk about the diner scene, which he calls “one of the greatest film feats” he’s ever been part of, and how he’s balancing the scales, which gives him this twisted joy. Bethel added,

“So, when you get to see him in a scene like that diner scene, to me, that’s like Bullseye just living his best life. You know what I mean? Which also, fortunately, is, I think, really fun to watch when you have an insanely psychotic guy who can throw anything and kill you with it, and he’s also feeling really happy and joyful and just wants to dance. That’s the scene you get.”

More details about Bullseye’s arc on Daredevil: Born Again

Bullseye is a completely different threat in Daredevil: Born Again compared to where we left him. Wilson Bethel is playing a version of Dex who has been through actual hell and come out the other side even more dangerous.

Wilson Fisk broke Dex’s back at the end of the original Daredevil series after he realized Dex had been manipulated. Then Dex underwent a experimental surgery that enhanced his body with Cogmium, which made him even more lethal. He’s now a fully weaponized assassin with no reason to hold back.

His relationship with Fisk is also complicated now. Bethel mentioned in the interview that they have got history, a lot of reasons to hate each other. But Dex’s trauma keeps bubbling up. He’s got this wounded-child mentality where one good deed could supposedly erase everything else he’s done.

With that being said, it would certainly make things interesting to see what his character will be up to this season.
