David Charvet has spoken out after his truck fatally struck a neighbor’s dog during an early morning drive through his Calabasas neighborhood. A representative for the Baywatch star spoke to People Magazine on April 16 and shared that Charvet:
“is an animal lover and responsible dog owner who would never intentionally harm an animal,”
and that:
“his thoughts are with the family who lost their dog.”
According to a report from People Magazine, the Falsa Inocencia actor was driving at around 5:30 a.m. in low-light conditions. That is when he stumbled upon his neighbor, who was walking three dogs freely(off leash) in the street. David Charvet then slowed his vehicle and moved to the side.
“As he did so, one of the dogs moved under the vehicle. He immediately stopped, called 911, and remained at the scene until authorities arrived. He fully cooperated with the investigation and made himself available for any further help,” shared the representative.
After the statement went out, Charvet, who is now fifty-three years old, was photographed stepping out publicly for the first time since the incident. As per a report shared by the Daily Mail, he was spotted at Erewhon in Calabasas picking up a smoothie with his girlfriend, Oksana Rykova, and a friend.
LA County sheriff confirms deputies responded as Vera Errico disputes David Charvet’s version of events:

According to the Daily Mail, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau said deputies were dispatched to a collision in Malibu on April 16.
Their statement read,
“On April 16, 2026, at approximately 0600 hours, deputies from Malibu/Lost Hills Station responded to a traffic-related incident in the City of Malibu involving a vehicle that accidentally struck a dog.”
The bureau went on to state that the dog’s owner transported the animal for medical treatment, though deputies were later informed the dog had succumbed to its injuries. A traffic report is now being prepared.
TMZ reports that Errico, the dog owner, claimed she was taking her leashed dogs for a walk a few minutes before 6 a.m.in a gated Malibu community when David Charvet’s pickup struck one of them.
She alleged that he left the community gate before contacting authorities, prompting her and her husband to file a hit-and-run report with the Sheriff’s Office. The eleven-year-old white English Labrador, Sunday, was later euthanized at the vet’s, as reported by TMZ.
From Baywatch to building luxury homes, David Charvet on why he walked away from Hollywood:

Long before this week’s incident, David Charvet had already closed the chapter on his Hollywood career. The actor made his name playing Matt Brody on Baywatch from 1992 to 1996, followed by the role of Craig Field on Melrose Place from 1996 to 1998.
That being said, Charvet, a father of two, made the deliberate choice to step away from the spotlight, launching Jones Builders Group with a business partner in 2008 and dedicating himself to building luxury homes in the Los Angeles area.

He opened up about that decision in a 2025 interview with People Magazine, saying:
“It was one way for me to leave Hollywood and to still be creative. It was also one way for me to ensure that I would be home every morning and home every night so that I could raise my two children.”
He told People Magazine at the time that he:
“wouldn’t change anything,”
adding that:
“What I’ve experienced with my kids and what I’ve experienced in the last 17 years has definitely made me a better man, has made me understand what it is to have real relationships and be able to treat people kindly and have more of a humble approach in life.”
Charvet had also taken up a seat on the board of directors of The Blue Seals, a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation and rapid environmental emergency response. As per The Blue Seals’ site, his family had been involved in building and transporting boats designed specifically for cleaning up oil spills.
