Bargain hunter mum’s Christmas haul slammed as ‘absolutely diabolical’ after setting ‘sad’ budget for her 2-year-old

WHEN it comes to Christmas, the majority of us are more excited to spend time with family than open the presents under the tree.

But it seems one mum’s budget haul of Christmas goodies for her two-year-old has shown a darker side of the festive season.

Taking to social media Sophie showed off the haul of goodies she had bought her two-year-old daughter so far

She said that she had a total budget of £100 for her daughter and had finally sorted out her stocking fillers.

The first thing she bagged was two packs of chocolate coins, a chocolate Santa and some Milky Bar buttons.

Sophie added that this was the only chocolate her daughter was getting this year, and it was plenty for a toddler.

Next, she was able to get a free magnetic play book for her daughter and picked up a Schleich white horse figurine for 50p from the charity shop.

The mum also bought an array of different books for her daughter including a Christmas one and Bluey books from Home Bargains.

At the Post Office, she found a pack of alphabet learning cards for just £1.95 as well as a number card game for £1.95 as well.

The mum also picked up some stamp pens for £1.99 as well as animal stamps for £2 in Home Bargains.

Last but not least, the young tot will find a selection of books her mum bought in Aldi for £2.49 each.

While the mum was thrilled with her selection of goodies, others claimed it was ‘sad’ she was spending £100 on her daughter for Christmas.

The post went viral on her TikTok account @sophiesleep with over 510k views and 18k likes, and many took to the comments to share their opinions.

One person wrote: “I can’t justify spending £100 on a child for Christmas it’s absolutely diabolical.”

“Talk about a sad Christmas,” penned a third.

How to save money on Christmas shopping

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save money on your Christmas shopping.

Limit the amount of presents – buying presents for all your family and friends can cost a bomb.

Instead, why not organise a Secret Santa between your inner circles so you’re not having to buy multiple presents.

Plan ahead – if you’ve got the stamina and budget, it’s worth buying your Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales.

Make sure you shop around for the best deals by using price comparison sites so you’re not forking out more than you should though.

Buy in Boxing Day sales – some retailers start their main Christmas sales early so you can actually snap up a bargain before December 25.

Delivery may cost you a bit more, but it can be worth it if the savings are decent.

Shop via outlet stores – you can save loads of money shopping via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse or Office Offcuts.

They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Former 2 year old here – I don’t even remember what I got for my birthday 2 years ago. You guys need to calm down, NO ONE needs over £800 spent on them.”

“Me thinking “Wow £100 is a lot for a toddler and these are great gifts,” and then I go to the comments and apparently that’s not enough?” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “I love this! Over consumption at Christmas has gotten out of control. These are lovely gifts.”

Hitting back at those negative comments, Sophie said: “Let’s just get this out of the way.

“Yes I buy some gifts second hand. It’s not that big of a deal. If in a charity shop, or mum market, to give as a gift to open I’d want it to be in great condition, so what was I to do when I saw that Schleich pony? In lovely condition at the bottom of a bucket of animals that were cr**py, looking all pristine and handsome?

“Secondly – my budget is fine, she’s 2. She’s going to be thrilled with what she’s got from us and the big guy, not to mention what she’ll get from family etc.”

“Final note – this budget is just for her presents, and doesn’t include other parts of the Christmas season eg, festive clothing for the big days, family Xmas pjs and Santa meet and greet.”
