ASDA has made a massive change to its aisles as it aims to make life easier for shoppers.
It’s stores are set to get a makeover following its Harrogate store was given a fresh new look.
The new layout will serve as a blueprint for other stores, highlighting its modern signage of its aisles.
It’s Harrogate store has ditched the conventional aisle-by-aisle signs and replaced them with electric signs over key areas showing customers where sections such as ‘Fruit and Veg’ and ‘Meat and Fish’ are found.
Another key difference in its prototype store is an entirely new department in the shop, which has been created by Asda’s Allan Leighton’s designs.
Now, there are George Home and General Merchandise departments on the shop floor, with the supermarket aiming to increase sales of its non-food offerings.
This new design includes fixtures and space to display the supermarket’s partnerships, such as their tie-in with TV celebrity Stacey Solomon.
Also getting a makeover are the new cabinet fixtures that have been fitted into the new and improved fruit and veg section, which it is hoped with improve availability on the shop floor.
The in-store bakery and the health and beauty departments have been revamped and given a fresh new look, while the beers, wines and spirits section has been expanded.
The Harrogate store reopened its doors to shoppers this week.
It is the first of seven stores which will get a total investment of £12million before December 1.
Plans to rejuvenate the Yorkshire outlet were announced in August.
New-look stores in Pudsey, Keighley and Kingswood are set to reopen next week, after a £7.2milion investment.
Asda has also forked out £4.6million to upgrade two stores in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, and in Stockton-on-Tees.
Asda’s chief commercial officer for retail and non-food Liz Evans said: “We’re so excited to welcome customers into our newly upgraded Harrogate store – the first to get an upgrade as part of our £12m investment across Yorkshire and nearby areas.
“Asda started here 60 years ago, so putting money back into our home patch really means a lot to us.
“We want our stores to feel fresh, easy to shop, and full of great value for local families.
“This is just the start – we can’t wait to unveil more upgraded Yorkshire stores over the next few weeks.”
