Amazon Prime is charging viewers more money to watch The Boys in 4K with no ads, here is all you need to know

Streaming was much simpler before. If you were paying a subscription, all you had to do was press play and watch your favourite programs in the best quality. However, this has changed over the years. Most of the platforms now have various plans with advertisements and premium fees on enhanced features.

Amazon Prime Video has now followed suit. In order to watch The Boys finale in 4K and without ads, you might need to pay more. The site has introduced 4K streaming in its ad-free plan, which requires an additional fee over the entry-level plan.

Prime Video’s new tier system explained

Amazon Prime Video has introduced a new tier of subscription option called Prime Video Ultra, which transfers certain premium features into a new paid plan. Starting April 10, 2026, the ad-free version has been upgraded and is now available at $4.99 per month.

Previously, for approximately $2.99 a month, users were able to avoid ads, while 4K streaming was part of the basic Prime Video plan. Now that has changed. The new Ultra tier will have no advertisements, 4K/UHD streaming, Dolby Atmos sound, additional streams simultaneously, and extra offline downloads.

The regular Amazon Prime membership still includes Prime Video, but only HD and HDR streaming are offered. Users currently have to purchase the Prime Video Ultra add-on to view shows and movies in 4K quality with zero ads.

Why fans of The Boys might feel the impact

T.V programs such as The Boys are designed to appear excellent in HD. The series is credited with its film-like scenes, massive action, and enormous scale production, which seem far more refined and finer in 4K Ultra HD, and with The Boys Season 5 already out on April 8, 2026, fans would be even more eager to view it before coming across spoilers on the internet.

The viewers who subscribe to the standard Prime Video plan are able to access the show, however, in 1080p HD. In order to stream it at full 4K quality, users have to subscribe to the premium tier. Some fans have been frustrated by this change. Previously, 4K streaming was a part of the regular service, but it is no longer free. To individuals who primarily purchase Prime to watch shows, an extra fee of a monthly subscription may not be perceived of great value.

The show itself is still available as usual. All seasons of The Boys remain on the platform, the only difference being that the quality of viewing is based on the plan you opt to purchase.
