Invincible Season 4, the next installment in Prime Video’s adult animated superhero series based on the eponymous comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, is finally here. The fourth season debuted on the platform with a three-episode premiere that followed Mark’s return, a Sequid attack that created chaos in the city and Omni-Man’s tragic backstory.
Mark Grayson, the titular superhero, finally returns in Season 4 after killing the bloodthirsty Viltrumite warrior, Conquest, in the Season 3 finale, but not before his girlfriend Eve takes some of the fall from the battle. The Invincible Season 4 premiere reveals that Mark is no longer a part of the GDA, which does not sit right with his girlfriend’s parents, Adam and Betsy. As Eve’s parents question her relationship with Mark, the duo teams up to fight against new threats and a mysterious Sequid attack in their city.
Here is the complete Invincible Season 4 Episodes 1-2 recap.
Mark, Eve and the Guardians of the Globe fight against new threats in Invincible Season 4 Episode 1
The Invincible Season 4 premiere kicks off with not one but three threats for Mark and the gang. When Mark receives a call to defeat the supervillain Furnace, he asks Oliver to join him. However, when Oliver refuses, Mark heads to the city alone, only to hear a booming voice thanking him for the human lives lost in the battle and ominously predicting that Mark can cause a human extinction event. The voice is revealed to be of a hulking T. rex/man hybrid, dubbed Dinosaurus. When Mark begins to fight with Dino, he disappears and a naked man appears in his place, claiming that he had no control over his body. When Mark tries to kill the man, the Guardians arrive and stop him.
Invincible Season 4 Episode 1 shifts its focus to two other threats looming in the city: the green-skinned alien warrior Universa and the human astronaut who was possessed by the Sequids in Season 2, Rus. As the Sequids create chaos in the city, Eve and Mark realize that the former’s powers are malfunctioning after Eve’s coffee (prepared from her superpowers) tastes terrible. Things take a turn when a frantic Eve tells Mark that Invincible Inc. has received an alert about a Sequid attack in the city. As Cecil and Donald learn about the Sequid attack, Mark and Eve head out to fight Universa, who has taken a power plant hostage and aims to consume more energy. The Invincible Season 4 premiere saw Universa claiming Eve’s malfunctioning powers, before she was finally killed for good.
Elsewhere, the Guardians of the Globe strategize to use Neural Disrupters to teleport and zap away Sequids from all possessed humans. As Brit begs Cecil to persuade Mark to join them in the battle against Sequids, Eve opts out of the battle to cope with her malfunctioning powers. In the final moments of Invincible Season 4 Episode 1, when the Sequid attack was contained, Mark shows up in front of Rus, who blames him for bringing this calamity to Earth, after which, the titular superhero punches Rus’ face off his head.
Nolan joins Allen and Thadeus in Invincible Season 4 Episode 2
Invincible Season 4 Episode 2 took a detour to Omni-Man’s early days on Viltrum Planet, which was exposed to a strange virus by the crash-landing silos. As Nolan gears up for his early days in adulthood, many of his fellow young Viltrumites and the General start showing strange symptoms, including vomiting and nose bleeding, before collapsing on the ground and dying. With billions of his people dead, Nolan reaches out to Allen the Alien and reveals the story about his planet, detailing how the silos attacked the Viltrumite DNA with the Skurge Virus. While Nolan initially planned to rebuild the Viltrum Empire, he eventually joined Allen, his girlfriend, Thadeus and the Coalition of Planets to defeat the Viltrum Empire, using a list of Viltrumite Weaknesses.
The latter half of Invincible Season 4 Episode 2 followed Allen and Nolan’s journey aboard the starship Venture in search of Viltrumite Weaknesses. The starship travels to various planets before reaching an ice-covered planet, which is denied the sun’s rays by the Viltrumites. After defeating the Ragnars on the icy planet, Nolan takes a moment to reflect on his planet and people, lamenting that while Viltrumites had every chance to change, they just became more evil. Allen’s girlfriend suggests recruiting Mark in their mission but Nolan is not keen on returning to Earth.
When Thadeus realizes that he needs to convince Nolan to return to Earth, he reveals his greatest sin. Thadeus takes Nolan to his lab and reveals that he is the one who created the Scurge Virus that brought death to billions of Viltrumites. Enraged and betrayed, Nolan finally agrees to return to Earth to recruit Mark. But he makes Thadeus promise in return that he will only use the destructive virus as a last resort.
Invincible Season 4 will release weekly episodes on Prime Video every Wednesday.
