Why Ted Season 3 will not happen by creator Seth MacFarlane

If you are hoping for Ted Season 3 to hit screens soon, you may need to lower their expectations as creator and voice star Seth MacFarlane has revealed that a third season of the show is not currently part of the plan, largely due to the enormous cost of producing the series.

In an interview with The Wrap, the actor spoke about how Peacock and Universal have often talked about how expensive the show was and how there’s no way to reduce costs. Talking about that, he stated,

“What I kept hearing [from Peacock and Universal] was, ‘Listen, the show is really expensive to produce and there’s no way to do it at a lower cost. ‘So I said, ‘All right, I hear you loud and clear.’ So I wrote the last scene with Max [Burkholder] walking into a gym, presumably coming out as Mark Wahlberg in the first Ted film.”

MacFarlane also pointed to how the workload of working on the show, the extensive CGI required and everything else resembles major blockbuster films, as he added,

“It’s very good that we had two Ted films under our belt, because the workload is something that, on a weekly basis, is just insurmountable. And it’s a testament to our production team, to our DP Jeff Mygatt, to our camera crew, to our visual effects crew..It’s like you’re doing an Avengers movie every 22 minutes with the amount of CGI that it takes, not only to animate the bear, but to act the bear. It’s something we couldn’t have done if we had not had the education of doing two films 10 years earlier.”

More details about Ted Season 3

The future of Ted and the possibility of Ted Season 3 remains uncertain as it’s still doubtful whether fans will see the foul-mouthed teddy bear and if he will return for a third season. While season 2 recently debuted on Peacock, the streaming platform has not yet confirmed a renewal, leaving the show’s next chapter hanging in the balance. Now with MacFarlane’s comments, the show’s future is even more grim.

Season 2’s finale was written with a sense of closure in mind. The ending bridges the gap between the prequel series and the events of the original films Ted and Ted 2. In the final scene, John Bennett, played in the series by Max Burkholder, heads into a gym, hinting at the transformation into the adult version portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the movies.

Whether we will get to see more in a potential season 3 remains doubtful, but given the franchise’s success, we might just get a Ted Season 3.
