Trump plans flyovers for America’s 250th

The Fourth of July in Washington, D.C., will feature military flyovers throughout the afternoon.

The White House and Freedom 250 are planning an extensive Independence Day celebration in the nation’s capital as part of the country’s semiquincentennial observance.

The all day event, known as the Salute to America Celebration and Fireworks, will include military aircraft demonstrations, entertainment, exhibits and a fireworks finale. President Donald Trump is also expected to address attendees during the evening program.

Organizers anticipate large crowds gathering throughout the day on the National Mall, with activities beginning in the early afternoon and continuing until after nightfall.

Military flyovers will take place throughout the afternoon

One of the day’s signature attractions will be a series of military flyovers scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m.

According to event organizers, aircraft demonstrations will occur every hour until sunset, which is expected around 8:30 p.m. The extended schedule means visitors will have multiple opportunities to watch military aircraft pass over the National Mall before the evening festivities begin.

The flyovers are part of the broader celebration recognizing America’s 250th anniversary.

The National Mall will host an all day celebration

Guests will be allowed to enter the event beginning at 1 p.m., giving attendees time to secure viewing spots well before the nighttime fireworks.

Programming is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., with entertainment and other activities taking place throughout the evening.

Officials have also noted that attendance near the Washington Monument will be limited because the area has a maximum capacity of approximately 150,000 people.

President Trump is expected to deliver an evening address

The event schedule includes remarks from President Donald Trump at approximately 9:45 p.m.

His appearance is expected to serve as one of the final moments before the night’s fireworks display, placing the president at the center of the anniversary celebration organized by his administration.

The speech is part of a larger series of events commemorating the nation’s 250th birthday.

Fireworks will close the celebration

The evening is expected to conclude with a fireworks display beginning at 10:30 p.m.

Organizers have described it as the largest fireworks presentation ever planned for the event, making it the centerpiece of the day’s festivities in Washington.

The fireworks are intended to cap nearly 10 hours of celebrations taking place across the National Mall.

The Great American State Fair is part of the festivities

The Independence Day celebration coincides with the ongoing Great American State Fair, which runs from June 25 through July 10 on the National Mall.

According to Freedom 250, the festival features more than 150 exhibits representing states, territories, businesses, civic organizations and cultural institutions. Visitors can also explore family attractions, military performances, live entertainment and educational displays throughout the multiweek event.

The fair is one of several projects tied to the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.

Freedom 250 is organizing many anniversary events

Freedom 250, the nonprofit organization coordinating many of this year’s anniversary activities, was established following an executive order signed in late 2025.

The organization oversees several commemorative events connected to America’s 250th birthday. It operates separately from America 250, another organization involved in national anniversary planning.

Freedom 250 has also drawn attention in recent weeks after several previously announced musical performers withdrew from the state fair lineup.

More anniversary projects are planned

The Fourth of July celebration is only one part of a broader effort marking the country’s milestone anniversary.

Last week, Trump announced a commemorative U.S. passport design celebrating America’s 250th birthday. The limited edition passport features a special cover design and will be available without an additional fee through the Washington Passport Agency while supplies last.

The State Department previously confirmed plans to release a limited number of commemorative passports as part of the anniversary observance.

With military demonstrations, cultural exhibits, presidential remarks and a fireworks finale, this year’s Fourth of July celebration is designed to highlight the nation’s 250th birthday through a full day of events in the nation’s capital. Officials are encouraging attendees to arrive early as large crowds are expected throughout the holiday.
