Nintendo Direct June 2026: 7 exciting predictions

It has been nearly nine months since the last general Nintendo Direct, and the Nintendo community’s anticipation has reached a fever pitch heading into June 2026. While Nintendo has released announcements sporadically through the Nintendo Today app and standalone reveals in recent months, fans are hungry for a traditional presentation. Unconfirmed rumors point to a possible Direct as early as this week, making it the right moment to run through the seven most talked-about predictions for what could be on the way.

1. A Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2

This is the rumor that has generated the most buzz heading into any potential June presentation. Respected Nintendo leaker NateTheHate has indicated that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is currently in development for the Switch 2. If accurate, it would represent one of the biggest announcements in Nintendo’s recent history, as Ocarina of Time is widely considered among the most important games ever made and has not received a full modern remake treatment beyond its 2011 Nintendo 3DS release.

2. Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Alongside the Zelda rumor, NateTheHate has also pointed to a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4 being in development. Pikmin 4 was released on the original Switch in 2023 to strong reviews, and an upgraded version for the new hardware would be a relatively straightforward way for Nintendo to bring the title to a new audience while giving Switch 2 owners an enhanced experience of one of the console generation’s most charming games.

3. Something new for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Nintendo Switch Sports

Both Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Nintendo Switch Sports are reportedly getting some form of new treatment, though the nature of those announcements remains unclear. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 could be receiving either a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition or a Definitive Edition upgrade, following the pattern set by Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on the original Switch. Nintendo Switch Sports, meanwhile, could be adding new sport modes or receiving a hardware-enhanced update for the new console.

4. A Kirby: Planet Robobot port or remake

NateTheHate previously mentioned a Kirby: Planet Robobot port or remake as a possibility, and while that prediction was made some time ago without materializing, the argument for it remains strong. The original Switch still has an enormous installed base, and Planet Robobot is one of the most beloved entries in the Kirby franchise. Releasing it while fans wait for the next mainline Kirby title would make considerable commercial sense for Nintendo.

5. A first glimpse of the next 3D Mario

According to NateTheHate, a new three-dimensional Mario game does exist in development but is not expected to be ready for release until 2027. That timeline would not necessarily prevent Nintendo from offering a brief early look at the game during a June Direct, in the style of the teases Nintendo has used in the past to generate excitement well ahead of a title’s launch window. A closing moment reveal of the next 3D Mario would be exactly the kind of finale a major Nintendo presentation is built around.

6. A wave of major third-party announcements

The volume of third-party games that have been leaked or rumored for Nintendo Switch 2 over the past several months is substantial. Titles that have appeared in various leak reports include Minecraft, Monster Hunter Wilds, Hi-Fi Rush, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Expedition 33, Mewgenics and Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition, among many others. A Nintendo Direct would be the natural venue for confirming a large portion of those titles officially and giving them the spotlight they would be lost in if announced individually.

7. Nintendo Switch Online expansions including Nintendo DS games

Nintendo added the Virtual Boy library to its Switch Online service earlier in 2026, but the catalog that fans are most eager to see added is the Nintendo DS. The Switch 2’s built-in microphone finally makes DS game emulation practically viable on the platform, and the DS has an exceptional software library that would translate well to a drip-feed subscription model over several years. Additional GameCube titles for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack service are also overdue, with major titles like Super Mario Sunshine still absent more than a year after the GameCube tier launched.
