Driving all our mid-week blues away, Apple TV+ has unveiled the first teaser for Ted Lasso Season 4, the highly-anticipated fourth installment of its Emmy-winning sports-comedy series. Created by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly, the first official teaser marks the return of Sudeikis’ titular and charming football-turned-soccer coach who is roped in to guide A.F.C. Richmond’s women’s football team in the latest season.
The official logline for the upcoming season (scheduled to premiere on Apple TV on August 5) reads as follows:
“Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
The brilliant soccer-themed comedy series wrapped its Season 3 finale in March 2023 and is returning after more than three years. Naturally, Ted Lasso fans’ excitement has spiked with the latest teaser drop, as one of them took to X to share their anticipation for the upcoming season:
”This new chapter with the women’s team feels like the perfect way to bring the magic back. August 5th can’t come soon enough!”
More on this in our story.
Fan reactions to the Ted Lasso Season 4 teaser
Ted Lasso follows the titular football coach, who is unexpectedly recruited to coach the fictional English Premier League soccer team, A.F.C. Richmond, despite having no experience in soccer. The series’ impressive three-season run follows a string of chaotic happenings and adventures as Lasso navigates this new world.
Jason Sudeikis’ titular character returns to Richmond in the Ted Lasso Season 4 teaser, anticipating a warm welcome. But he is berated for “coaching a bunch of girls – you w*nker!”, as he struggles to coach his new team of young female soccer players.
Fans initially felt that Apple TV’s comedy series had run its course with three seasons but the women’s team feels like a fresh start for Ted. An X user expressed hope with the upcoming storyline, hoping that the series retain its trademark feel-good factor in Season 4:
”Bringing Ted back already feels risky, but shifting him to a women’s team might be the fresh angle that actually justifies it. If they keep the heart and don’t force the magic, this could work.”
”Im kind of happy for this. It was such a relaxing show to watch despite its flaws. Just feels good. I’m excited. Helps me take my mind off all the shit in the world.” another user added
Amid growing anticipation for the new season, a Reddit user praised the series for spotlighting women’s sports and pushing them into the mainstream conversation. The first three seasons closely followed Ted Lasso as he struggled to fit in with the men’s soccer team. The upcoming season is a goldmine of new opportunities and relationships, which have been the heart of the show in its freshman season. The user pointed out:
”A season drawing attention to women’s sports is good for the cultural zeitgeist! It has potential to be more than just “more Ted Lasso.” I’m hopeful they do it right.”
In addition to Jason Sudeikis, Ted Lasso Season 4’s returning cast includes Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Brendan Hunt as Coach Willis Beard, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins and Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent. New cast additions for the upcoming season include Tanya Reynolds, Faye Marsay, Jude Mack, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, Rex Hayes and Grant Feely.
Ted Lasso Season 4 will premiere on Apple TV on August 5. Episodes will roll out weekly (every Wednesday) until the season finale, scheduled to premiere on October 7.
With the trailer finally here, excitement for the new season is at an all-time high. Fans are eagerly counting down the days, hoping for more heartfelt moments, humor and surprises. If the buzz is anything to go by, August 5 is set to be a big day for Ted Lasso lovers.
