5 burning questions Scarpetta Season 2 needs to address as Prime Video thriller begins production

Scarpetta Season 1 has come to an end, and might we just say how mind-blowing it was? While we did get answers about the copycat killer, the final episode has set up a few other bigger problems.

While Officer Ryan’s identity may have been done and dusted, the story is far from over. Relationships are on the line, secrets are still very much all up in the air, and many scenes from the final episode feel far from being finished.

With Scarpetta moving onward and forward for Season 2 on Prime Video, five major questions would have to be answered in the upcoming season.

Let’s take a look at what needs to be answered for Season 2!

5 burning questions Scarpetta Season 2 needs to address as Prime Video thriller begins production

Q1) Who entered Scarpetta’s house in the finale?

The last scene of Scarpetta Season 1 is hard to get out of my mind. Kay is standing over Officer Ryan’s body after literally beating him to death while defending herself, and then…there’s someone at the door.

Who is the person? We don’t know. Kay looks up to the person standing and is clearly shocked. The scene cuts right then and there. All we know for now is that whoever entered the house just witnessed the aftermath of a brutal killing.

One possibility could be Maggie because earlier on in the episode, she had been collecting documents related to Kay’s predecessor, Dr. Reddy, and if Maggie came in to deliver those files, she might have walked in on murder.

Again, the show never confirms it and we’re left with some mystery hanging right above our heads and we must get answers to this in Season 2 of Scarpetta.

Q2) Did Pete Marino pick Dorothy over Kay?

Pete Marino’s situation is just as complicated as the murder investigation in Scarpetta. During the season, the AI system Janet suggests that Pete might just secretly be in love with Kay.

Pete has time and time again put everything aside to help Kay with the investigation, so much so that he even took responsibility for the death of the killer from the 1990s case.

Things reach a breaking point when Dorothy forces him to choose between her and Kay. Pete decides to stay with his wife, but it doesn’t look like a happy marriage. They’re both so uncomfortable, and it’s obvious that we ask if Pete stayed with Dorothy out of convenience/loyalty, or did his feelings for Kay suddenly vanish out of thin air?

Q3) Who destroyed Lucy’s AI wife Janet?

Lucy had literally spent years and years coping with all of the grief by making use of an AI version of her late wife, Janet, but Janet is nowhere to be found in the Season 1 finale of the show.

With the shutdown, Lucy suspects that either her mother, Dorothy, or her aunt Kay might have destroyed the AI, but both of them deny it.

Early on in the episode, the AI “understands” that its mere existence is painful for Lucy. Kay then asks the system for a favor, but we don’t hear what the favor is. Could it be that Kay asked the AI to erase its system? Its existence?

Scarpetta Season 2 will surely reveal who called for the AI to be destroyed.

Q4) What was Blaise trying to reveal before the call cut off?

If you’ve watched the show, then you know that Lucy’s relationship with Blaise ended on rough terms. Their argument comes right after Blaise faces trouble at work because of an earlier ride-along with Lucy.

Even after the breakup, Blaise contacts Kay to share some important information. She finds out about where the victims received their synthetic skin grafts and learns that another person had been part of the same medical trial.

The minute she starts to utter the name, the call? It suddenly drops.

That missing name could very much be the key to a much larger conspiracy. What if another participant from the trial connects to the murders? Then, the story might just be far bigger than the revenge plan.

Scarpetta Season 2 will almost certainly pick up this thread to ease all of our minds. Or at least, I hope they do.

Q5) Why did Benton try to stop the investigation?

Benton’s behavior in the finale raises some very serious doubts about all of his motives. Even though the case is still in development, he pushes Kay to stop looking into the identity of the killer.

At the very same time, Benton also confesses to something extremely deeply unsettling. He admits that he has been experiencing violent thoughts ever since childhood, and even though Kay does not fully understand what he means, this surely does change the dynamic of their relationship.

Then Benton decides to drop down yet another bomb when he asks Kay for a divorce and ends up with his partner, Tron.

Why was he so determined to shut down the investigation, though? And what else is he hiding?

Scarpetta Season 2 better be ready with some answers!

Scarpetta Season 1 ended by identifying the copycat killer, but it looks like the finale purposely left out many answers unresolved.

The killing, the AI vanishing, Pete’s dilemma between two people, Blaise’s findings, and Benton’s confession all point toward a much bigger story that is still unfolding.

As production moves forward, Season 2 will need to answer these questions because we will be actively waiting!
