Prince Harry is facing a defamation lawsuit from a charity. The charity claims he led a negative media campaign that disrupted their operations and damaged their reputation. Court documents show that Harry and Mark Dyer are defendants in this libel or slander case. For those unaware, Mark Dyer is a former trustee of Sentebale.
The Duke of Sussex is facing legal charges by his own co-founded African Charity, named Sentebale. The legal proceedings against the two defendants have been commenced in High Court of England and Wales.
On April 10, Sentebale released an official statement detailing their lawsuit. The statement reads:
“Sentebale has commenced legal proceedings in the High Court of England and Wales. The charity seeks the court’s intervention, protection, and restitution following a coordinated adverse media campaign conducted since 25 March 2025 that has caused operational disruption and reputational harm to the charity, its leadership, and its strategic partners.”
The statement further read that legal proceedings against Harry and Mark stemmed from “adverse media campaign” that led the charity to face cyberbullying.
“The proceedings have been brought against Prince Harry and Mark Dyer, identified through evidence as the architects of that adverse media campaign, which has had significant viral impact and triggered an onslaught of cyber-bullying directed at the charity and its leadership.”
It said that Sentebale has faced negative campaign as a result of false narratives about the charity and its leadership. Following this, the charity diversified its resources for handling its reputational crisis.
“Sentebale has experienced the adverse media campaign as false narratives circulated through the media about the charity and its leadership, attempts to undermine its relationships with staff, existing and prospective partners, and the forced diversion of leadership time and resources into managing a reputational crisis not of the charity’s making.”
The statement concluded saying:
“The Board and Executive Director trust that those who believe in Sentebale’s mission will understand why this legal action, whilst difficult, was necessary and important, and will continue to stand with us as we focus on the work ahead.”
Following the defamation lawsuit, a representative for Prince Harry and Mark Dyer said that both defendants reject the claims.
“They categorically reject these offensive and damaging claims.”
More about Prince Harry’s co-founded charity Sentebale
Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho started this charity to address issues like young people’s health, wealth inequality, and climate resilience in Lesotho and Botswana. Prince Harry co-founded it in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana.
Last year in March, both co-founders and some trustees resigned because their relationship with the board chair allegedly deteriorated, making the situation impossible to manage, as they stated together.
Reports indicated that disputes over money issues and disagreements over fundraisers worsened the divisions within Sentebale. Both parties accused each other of bad behaviour, which to an investigation by the Charity Commission.
