The Studio Season 2 was soon renewed in May 2025, after Season 1’s success. Later on in the year, the show went on to win 13 Emmys and has become one of the most successful and popular comedies on air. However, the cast and crew of the show suffered a great loss when their colleague and friend Catherine O’Hara passed away on January 30, 2026 at the age of 71.
Many shows ignore the death of a cast member when they write the next season as it is often easier to exclude their character from the story than address it meaningfully. But The Studio won’t be doing that. In a recent interview, Seth Rogan, co-creator of the show has confirmed that The Studio Season 2 will address Catherine O’Hara’s death.
Catherine O’Hara’s death will be addressed in The Studio Season 2
Catherine O’Hara played Patty Leigh, who was the studio head at Continental Studios before Matt Remick and also his mentor. Thus, she played a vital role in the show, and unfortunately won’t be seen in The Studio Season 2. Instead of just excluding her character from the upcoming season, Seth Rogan confirmed that the show will be addressing her death properly.
In an interview with The Times of London, Rogan spoke about O’Hara’s death and how it has affected the show, saying,
“It has been an unbelievable challenge,”
He continued,
“Obviously emotionally, dealing with the loss, but also when it comes to the show itself. We wrote it for her to be there. We had it all set and the shock waves permeate throughout the entire new season. It’s been difficult. You worded it better than we could — she was the anchor and now the anchor is gone.”
He added,
“If anything, we’re acknowledging the idea that we are a little anchorless. But, honestly, that is a part of life and what we all experience. And so while we try to not dwell too much on heavy themes in this show, they will be there in this second season. We are not ignoring it.”
Thus, while we don’t know how exactly The Studio Season 2 will address the actress’ death, our guess is that we will most likely see her character Patty Leigh pass away as well. Patty wasn’t exactly an actress, but she was an influential figure in the show’s Hollywood. Thus, her death would create a vacum and emotionally effect everyone in the show’s story just like O’Hara’s death affected everyone who knew her. Since Rogan said that the show will deal with heavy themes, we are guessing that through Party’s death, we will see the show’s characters go through emotions one doesn’t usually expect from a comedy.
Regardless of how it is done, it is a relief to most fans and O’Hara’s loved ones that the actress’ last on-screen appearance will be given a proper goodbye.
The Studio Season 2 is currently under production. A release date is yet to be revealed. Season 1 is streaming on Apple TV.
