The Boys Season 5 star Karen Fukuhara talks about changing her approach to the character after she starts speaking

The Boys Season 5 star Karen Fukuhara is opening up on one of the biggest shifts for her characters this season, and it may lead to fans seeing her in a completely different light. After four seasons of silence, her character Kimiko has finally started talking, and for Fukuhara this has led to her changing her approach to the role.

As she spoke to ScreenRant, the actress discussed what it’s like to bring voice to a character defined by silence as she explored this new side of Kimiko. The best part however, is the comedy that comes with it. Fukuhara is thrilled that Kimiko’s new dialogue is packed with humor. Before this, she’d mostly been riffing off Frenchie, arguably the show’s funniest character, so Fukuhara would constantly find herself cracking up on set watching him work. Now she gets to be the one landing those jokes, and it’s opened up a totally different side of performing the character, especially in The Boys Season 5.

Talking to the outlet she stated,

“I think it’s always a challenge when something new comes into play. And especially with her lines this season, there’s a lot of humorous ones. I feel lucky in that she was given these lines because she’s always been with the funniest character, in my opinion, on the show. And Frenchie has always had those jokes in our scenes and I would always be the one that’s breaking. And so it was really fun to tackle that new side of her this season.”

Kimiko’s been through so much that her finding her voice is an important part of her character growth. She’s built an actual family with the Boys, and now she’s finally comfortable enough to actually talk to them. That’s massive character growth, and Fukuhara clearly relishes the chance to show that evolution on screen on The Boys Season 5.

The Boys Season 5 is finally all set to premiere

The Boys is ending with it’s fifth season, and from everything we know, it’s going to be absolutely brutal. Homelander is dominating now, and he has got the White House locked down, and the Boys are scattered and broken. Billy Butcher’s the one pulling everyone back together for one last shot, armed with a virus that could wipe out every supe on the planet.

The cast is stacked too. All of our favorites are coming back and Jensen Ackles is returning as Soldier Boy. We also have a Supernatural reunion nobody saw coming, with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins also being a part of the roster.

The first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 drop on April 8th on Prime Video, then it’s weekly releases until the finale on May 20th.
