Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16 welcomed Chief Hopkins at Firehouse 51
Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16 begins with Cruz and Severide discussing Pascal’s exit and his office, with the latter revealing that he wants to ease into the position and will start using the space for some meetings. However, Severide is shocked to see Chief Hopkins claiming Pascal’s office when he returns later in the day. Severide and Hopkins get off on the wrong start as the latter asks the Lieutenant to pack things up from the office. Later, Hopkins notices a picture of Severide and Kidd in the former’s office and questions him about the same. Hopkins subtly warns Severide that he doesn’t like the pair going against CFD rules (of married people working the same shifts). While Severide and Kidd had been given the go-ahead in the past, Hopkins plans on changing this arrangement.
As Severide wonders why Hopkins is being extra hard on him in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16, Van Meter calls to congratulate him on his Captain’s exam results, which he passed with the No. 1 position. Van Meter assures Severide that Hopkins will personally deliver the good news to him.
Cruz navigated a parenting trouble in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16
Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16 revealed that Cruz and Chloe are expecting another child. While Cruz is happy with the news, Tony and Capp notice that he is also scared of the responsibility. As Cruz was discussing the new Chief with Severide, Chloe showed up at the firehouse. Chloe reveals that while reading Javi’s emails, she saw an exchange with Eddie (the social service personnel) requesting that he track some of his relatives in Honduras. Chloe feels that Javi is likely feeling disconnected from the couple because of the arrival of their biological child. Later, when Javi drops by the firehouse, he assures Cruz that he messaged Eddie months before Chloe’s pregnancy news.
Severide steps in to help Cruz and connects him to Terry, their social worker. Terry advises Cruz to be honest with Javi. He also assures that sometimes adopted kids want to track down their family, to know more about them and their childhood. This convinces Cruz to book a trip to Honduras with Javi. In the final moments of Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16, Cruz assures Javi that they will explore his hometown to know more about his roots and family.
Severide learns his history with Hopkins in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16
In the latter half of Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16, as Severide was going through Chief Hopkins’ file, he noticed a disciplinary action from Firehouse 66. Severide discovered that Hopkins had worked with his father, Benny, back in the day, who suspended him without any reason and Hopkins likely holds a grudge against him. When Severide confronts Hopkins, the latter subtly warns him that he has only advanced in the CFD because of his father (and his connections) and he is going to change that. Hopkins announces that he is going to stay at Firehouse 51 and use his position to kick legacy firefighters (like Severide) out of the system.
In the final moments of Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 16, an angry & determined Severide reaches Van Meter’s house to unload the day’s events. The episode concludes as Severide vows to save his Firehouse 51 family from Hopkins and give his new Chief a befitting fight.
