GARY O’NEIL has withdrawn from the race to become Wolves boss after holding shock talks to return to the club.
The Black Country club is on the lookout for a new manager after handing Vitor Pereira his P45 on Sunday.

The Wolves brass are moving quickly to try to replace the sacked Portuguese gaffer and have sensationally sounded out O’Neil about a shock return to Molineux.
But the 42-year-old has reportedly pulled out of the race to take charge of the Molineux club.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claims the former Wolves midfielder believes the opportunity isn’t “right for him” at this moment in time.
O’Neil replaced Julen Lopetegui as Wolves boss in August 2023 on a three-year deal.
He guided the club to a 14th-placed finish and the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in his first season in charge.
But his troops’ form fell off a cliff the following season, with the club failing to win any of their first ten league games.
O’Neil paid the price for the team’s woeful form last December when he was given his marching orders following a 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town.
