Frankie Muniz is now looking forward to more acting roles, thanks to Malcolm in the Middle reboot

Two decades after Malcolm in the Middle wrapped up in 2006, Frankie Muniz is dusting off his acting chops and eyeing a return to the entertainment industry. The 40-year-old actor reprised his iconic role as the titular middle child in the new revival, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, and the experience has left him hungry for more as he is talking about returning to the camera once again.

“I haven’t done a ton of acting lately,” Muniz admits to PEOPLE. “And getting to work with everybody again, it’s intimidating in a sense.” Initially, he worried whether portraying Malcolm would come naturally after so many years away from the role. But the moment he stepped back on set with his former TV parents Jane Kaczmarek and Bryan Cranston, those nerves melted away. He then talked about how proud he felt making the show as he stated,

“It felt like home. I was really proud of what we made. I haven’t said that many times when I leave a set. Normally I’m kind of like, ‘I probably could have done that better. I could have tried this. I could have done that.’ But every day I left the set on this revival I was really proud of what we were making”

Now, Muniz is open about pursuing new acting opportunities. While he remains committed to his racing career in motorsports, he’s hopeful Hollywood will come calling as he added,

“I would love the opportunity, but it’s not up to me. So call me!”

More details about Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair

Nearly 20 years after the original series wrapped, Hulu’s four-episode revival brings back the dysfunctional family that defined millennial television. But this time, Malcolm is a grown man with his own daughter, his own girlfriend, and his own reasons for avoiding his parents but Hal and Lois aren’t having it.

The premise follows Malcolm as he has built a life away from the chaos, running a food charity with girlfriend Tristan and raising teenage daughter Leah. When his parents demand he show up for their 40th anniversary bash, the entire family implodes. Francis has moved into the garage with his pregnant wife, Reese is somehow making money off humiliating himself online, Dewey is touring as a musician as the show brings both nostalgia and a family we all loved on our televisions.
