Did Michael J. Fox die at 64? Viral claim debunked as ‘Family Ties’ star’s rep denies death hoax

Michael J. Fox is alive.

The death hoax around the actor went viral after CNN put out an article titled “Remembering the Life of Actor Michael J. Fox.” It soon went viral, leaving many fans worried and confused about what had actually happened.

The actor’s spokesperson released a statement to TMZ denying the death hoax, saying:

“Michael is doing great. He was at PaleyFest yesterday. He was on stage and was giving interviews.”

After the claim went viral, a CNN representative also released a statement to TMZ addressing the same:

“The package was published in error; we have removed it from our platforms and send our apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family.”

While his representative already cleared the claim, stating that Michael is doing great, the actor also reacted to his own death hoax in a humorous way on Threads, writing:

“How do you react when you turn on the TV and CNN is reporting your death? Do you…A) switch to MNSBC, or whatever they are calling themselves these days, (B) Pour scolding hot water on your lap, if it hurts your fine, (C) Call your wife, hopefully she’s concerned but reassuring, (D) Relax, they do this once every year, (E) Ask yourself wtf ?”

He continued:

“I thought the world was ending, but apparently it’s just me and I’m ok. Love, Mike.”

However, this is not the first time Michael has been linked to such false reports. A similar death hoax spread in 2018 through a misleading website made to look like a Yahoo News page, which confused many readers.

According to the false claims published at that time, Fox had died from pneumonia after health complications linked to Parkinson’s disease. While Michael didn’t release any statement about the same, his fans soon realized that it was a hoax after he uploaded a social media post.

Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of twenty-nine. The actor has been open about his journey with his fans. In an interview with People last year, Michael talked about how he stays positive, saying:

“I wake up and get the message of what the day is gonna be like, and I try to adjust to it. I keep getting new challenges physically, and I get through it. I roll around in a wheelchair a lot, and it took some getting used to. You take the good, and you seize it.”

The actor last appeared in Shrinking Season 3, released this year.
