The wreckage, which included a tail fin and other fragments, was initially misidentified by Iranian outlets as belonging to an F-35. Aviation analysts quickly corrected the record, identifying the aircraft as an F-15E from the 494th Fighter Squadron, based at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom.
