Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones join Netflix’s hit period drama.
Three new actors are joining the world of Bridgerton for its upcoming fifth season, bringing fresh energy to the Regency-era drama as production gets underway in London.
Netflix announced Tuesday that Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones have been cast as recurring guest stars. Their characters will orbit the season’s central love story between Lady Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), the pair confirmed as season 5’s leads last month.
Who’s joining the cast
Alexander, known for his work in The Sandman and Mobland, will play Christopher Anderson, the adult son of the beloved Lord Marcus Anderson. The character is described as a Regency-era Casanova who could rival the Bridgerton bachelors, though beneath his charming exterior lies a current of self-doubt that threatens to unravel him.
Boatswain, who appeared in Carnival Row, has been cast as Helen Stirling, Michaela’s mother. Helen is described as the very source of her daughter’s bold spirit, a woman who guides and occasionally pushes Michaela through London’s social season with equal parts warmth and tough love.
Jones, also known for Mobland, will play Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, an old friend of Michaela’s who serves as her confidante and guide to London. Beneath her playful charm, Elizabeth is described as a grounded realist who understands the unspoken rules of society.
What season 5 is about
The new season picks up two years after Francesca’s husband, Lord John Stirling (Victor Alli), has died. Determined to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons, Francesca finds her resolve tested when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to manage the Kilmartin estate. The season will follow Francesca as she weighs her pragmatic intentions against the deeper feelings Michaela stirs in her.
The eight-episode season is executive produced by showrunner Jess Brownell alongside Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica and Chris Van Dusen.
Season 5 follows the fourth installment, which focused on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). Netflix renewed the series for a fifth and sixth season in May 2025. After Francesca’s story concludes, the remaining Bridgerton siblings still awaiting their chapters are Eloise (Claudia Jessie), confirmed as the season 6 lead, as well as Gregory (Will Tilston) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).
