Victoria Beckham has publicly addressed the ongoing family rift in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, which includes a rift with her eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham. Her address comes after months of headlines and claims. The former Spice Girls star, along with her husband, spoke about their role as parents.
Victoria acknowledged the situation in general but did not specifically name Brooklyn. In the interview, she said:
“I think that we’ve always — we love our children so much.”
She went on to add:
“We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
Brooklyn Beckham’s explosive claims
Victoria’s remarks come months after Brooklyn posted a long social media statement in which he made a number of shocking charges against his family.
He asserted that even prior to their 2022 wedding, his parents had “been trying endlessly to ruin” his marriage to Nicola Peltz Beckham.
Brooklyn accused Victoria of “hijacking” his first dance at the wedding and acting inappropriately, which was one of the most controversial accusations. Additionally, he said that at the last minute, she backed out of designing Nicola’s wedding gown.
Brooklyn further claimed that his family controlled media narratives and put their public image ahead of real connections, adding that “Brand Beckham comes first.” Brooklyn also wrote:
“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Since the couple’s 2022 wedding, there have been rumors of conflict between Brooklyn, Nicola, and the Beckham family. The situation seems to have gotten worse over time, leading to Brooklyn’s public statement at the beginning of the year.
There has been speculation on the extent of the split because the couple has apparently removed themselves from family gatherings, particularly significant occasions. A source close to Brooklyn revealed:
“They just wanted to quietly live their lives and be married but after reading enough of the relentless inaccuracies about Nicola, a family member had had enough and wanted to set the record straight last year.”
The insider added:
“And then the Beckhams had plenty of time to make amends and try and fix the damage and instead they continued to push these false narratives, and Brooklyn and Nicola are just sick of it. Brooklyn knows his truth and was ready to speak it.”
Despite this, many close to Brooklyn denied reports that both David and Victoria Beckham have tried to make amends in private:
“David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward … David loves his kids. They are his everything.”
Victoria Beckham reflects on parenting in the public eye
Victoria Beckham, in the interview, spoke about the difficulties of raising older children. She said that she and David are “trying to do the best [they] can”:
“Being a parent of young adult children and adult children, gosh, I mean, it’s very different from having little children.”
David Beckham, who has been married to Victoria Beckham for almost three decades now, made an appearance on CNBC’s financial program Squawk Box in the beginning of the year, said:
“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad.”
He went on to add:
“I’ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.”
David Beckham concluded with:
“You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”
Despite the ongoing family tension, Victoria Beckham also talked about how her fashion and beauty business has been doing:
“I think that ultimately people are buying my product because the product is really good. I don’t think they’re buying my eyeliner just because it’s me.”
Victoria Beckham is addressing the whole rift between the family, as Brooklyn and Nicola continue to maintain their distance from them. Other members of the Beckham family, who include the siblings, have also tried offering an olive branch to Brooklyn.
