Here’s who brought the Fox medical drama to life

Doc Season 2 wrapped up with its two-hour season finale this Tuesday. Doc Season 2 Episodes 21 and 22, titled ‘Stuck‘ and ‘Happy Birthday‘, respectively, took the viewers on an emotional rollercoaster ride. The finale also left us on a cliffhanger that will be addressed in the upcoming season. Yes, Doc is coming back for Season 3.

The finale episodes feature two special guest stars: Judd Hirsch and Blair Underwood, who play very crucial roles in the episode. The episode begins on a slower note. However, within minutes, the finale takes a chaotic turn when Amy finds out that one of Richard’s patients is infected with a deadly virus that is contagious.

Molly Parker as Dr. Amy Larsen

Molly Parker plays Dr. Amy Larsen in Doc Season 2 Episode 21. In this episode, Amy detects that one of Richard’s patients is infected with a deadly virus. The virus is contagious, and the doctors decide to seal the sixth floor of Westside.

The doctors experiment and find a cocktail drug that could stop the virus from spreading. Richard steps up to volunteer for the same. As the doctors administer the drug into Richard’s body, his heart rate drops, and amidst the chaos, Amy gets infected from a syringe. Amy’s condition worsens. TJ, Gina, and the newcomer, Dr. Ben, team up to save Amy. In the end, the operation is a success.

By the end of the finale, Amy asks some hard-hitting questions to Jake, and it looks like everything’s not well between them. Jake and Amy still have feelings for their former partners, and it’s not looking good for their future. Amy also tells Michael that she is not looking for a relationship now; she wants peace. However, the finale ends on a cliffhanger with Ben revealing that he was in an on-and-off relationship with Amy in the past. Previously, in the finale, he told Amy that they met during the New York conference, a couple of years back.


Blair Underwood as Dr. Benjamin Grant

Blair Underwood (Deep Impact and Gattaca) debuts in Doc Season 2 as Dr. Ben Grant, the new trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon at Westside. He reveals that he met Amy during a New York conference three years back. With Richard, Gina, and Nurse Lizz stuck on the quarantine floor, Ben steps up.

Later, he teams up with Gina and TJ for Amy’s surgery. What stands out is when the viewers realize that Ben isn’t just Amy’s colleague; he has been in an on-and-off relationship with Amy in the past. Amy couldn’t recognise him because she had no memories of the past eight years after the accident. Underwood’s character will be explored in the upcoming season of Doc Season 2.


Judd Hirsch guest stars as Herman Zweig

Judd Hirsch (Taxi and A Beautiful Mind) guest stars as Herman Zweig, a 90-year-old patient at Westside. In the episode, Herman is a Holocaust survivor, and he wishes to spend his birthday with his family at his house. Amidst the chaos, this is a heartwarming part of the episode.


Scott Wolf as Dr. Richard Miller

Scott Wolf portrays the complex character of Dr. Richard Miller in Doc Season 2, Episode 21. He managed to get back to his position at Westside even after his mess-up that involved a patient’s death. In this episode, Nurse Lizz complains to HR about Richard. Richard loses his mind and lashes out at the nurses. However, during the virus outbreak, Richard volunteers to be the guinea pig for the experimental drug. His heart rate drops when the drug is administered. However, he eventually beats the virus and recovers. Turns out, his blood serum helped Nurse Lizz recover from the infection. In the end, however, Richard announces that he will be leaving Westside. This leaves the viewers on a cliffhanger about Wolf’s character’s fate. Will he return for Doc Season 3? Or is this the end of Richard Miller?


Felicity Huffman plays Dr. Joan Ridley

Felicity Huffman plays Dr. Joan Ridley in Doc Season 2 Episode 21. In this episode, the former Chief of Internal Medicine and Amy’s mentor was recovering from her complex surgery. However, when things turned chaotic in Westside after the virus outbreak, she stepped up and helped the doctors. She teamed up with Ben and TJ for Amy’s emergency operation. However, her condition deteriorated in the end, and she was sent to a hospice centre.

Other pivotal characters:

  • Patrick Walker as Dr. TJ Coleman. In this episode of Doc Season 2, TJ helps the 90-year-old patient Herman Zweig, and then, when the virus creates a ruckus, he teams up with Ben and Gina for Amy’s critical operation. The operation is successful, and Amy eventually recovers. TJ and Sonya take their relationship to the next level.

  • Amirah Van as Dr. Gina Walker
  • Omar Metwally as Dr. Michael Hamda, Chief of Internal Medicine and Amy’s former partner
  • Jon-Michael Ecker as Dr. Jake Heller
  • Samantha Massel as Rachel, Jake’s former partner. She returns to Westside and gets stuck during the quarantine. She apologizes to Jake, and they share an emotional moment. It seems like they do have strong feelings for each other.
  • Conni Miu as Nurse Liz
  • Paulyne Wiz as Nurse Lucy. Unfortunately, Nurse Lucy got infected and died in the season finale of Doc Season 2.
  • Additionally, Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, who plays Katie, Amy, and Michael’s daughter, might not be a series regular for the upcoming season. Previously, we saw Amy and Micahel took an adventurous road trip to drop Katie off at college.
