Kanye West is reportedly being sued for allegedly sucker punching a man at the Chateau Marmont hotel

Kanye West has landed in legal trouble after a man accused the rapper of assaulting him in April 2024. According to court documents obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, a man with the pseudonym John Doe filed a lawsuit alleging battery and infliction of emotional distress. According to the complaint, Kanye West allegedly approached the plaintiff’s table at the Chateau Marmont hotel in LA on April 16 and sucker punched him without warning.

“Without warning, [West] punched plaintiff in the face. The punch knocked plaintiff to the ground, where he hit his head and lost consciousness. Then repeatedly punched plaintiff as he lay unconscious on the ground, with the intent to cause physical harm,” court documents alleged.

As per Us Weekly, the lawyers of the unidentified man claimed the attack was unprovoked. The lawsuit document further called the alleged attack “cowardly” and said that the victim had “no way of expecting” the attack.

“Conduct was shocking, physically harmful and offensive to plaintiff, as it would have been harmful and offensive to any reasonable person,” the lawsuit added.

The legal complaint further alleged that following the attack, Kanye West “falsely accused” the man of inappropriate behavior with women at his party.

“In the days following the assault, [West] falsely accused plaintiff of engaging in offensive and inappropriate conduct toward a woman in [West’s] party. [West] repeated and embellished these lies during a widely viewed podcast appearance,” the court documents alleged.

The alleged victim has sought an unspecified amount of money in damages. At the time of writing, the rapper has not responded to the allegation. The lawsuit comes days after Kanye West’s Wireless Festival controversy.

Kanye West was recently blocked from entering the UK after backlash against Wireless Festival

Last month, Wireless Festival announced Kanye West as the headliner of the three-day event that was scheduled in July. Following the announcement, the music festival came under scrutiny for providing a stage to the rapper after he had made several antisemitic remarks in the past.

Major sponsors, including Pepsi, pulled back their endorsement from the event. UK PM Kier Starmer also criticized the Wireless Festival’s headliner choice. On April 7, the UK government rejected Kanye West’s application to visit the country. Following the announcement, Keir Starmer took to X and penned:

“Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”

However, the music festival was also cancelled after the ban on Ye’s entry. Before he was blocked from entering the country, West issued a statement and said that his goal was to present a “show of change” and bring peace and unity through his music. The rapper acknowledged the damage done by his past remarks, saying:

“I would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK in person, to listen. I know words aren’t enough — I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.”

Before the cancellation of his UK tour, Ye did two sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium in California. West is slated to perform at cities across the globe in support of his latest album, Bully.
