Dexter: Resurrection Season 2: Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 gets Downtown Abbey star Dan Stevens onboard

Another thrilling member was recently introduced to the cast of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. Former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley) has been cast among the cast of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. The announcement of the casting came when the show commenced shooting its second season in New York on April 13, 2026.

This announcement was among the first and major casting announcements after the production crew started rolling the cameras officially. Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 was greenlit in October 2025. The season filming is ongoing currently.

Clyde Phillips, the showrunner of Dexter: Resurrection, has confirmed that season 2 of this TV show will have its premiere in October of 2026 on Paramount Plus with Showtime. The production will take place at the newly constructed Sunset Pier 94 studios situated in the location of Manhattan. This would be the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the original debut of the Dexter TV show, which first aired in October 2006.

Who is Dan Stevens?

Daniel Jonathan Stevens is a British actor who became internationally visible in his first appearance as Matthew Crawley on the period drama Downton Abbey, with his debut on television globally. Matthew was one of the most loved characters in Downton Abbey, and the most popular as well. With the end of season 3, Daniel Jonathan Stevenson left behind an ever-expanding fan community across all corners of the globe.

Dan Stevens has been working on many different acting projects ever since he left Downton Abbey. He played the Beast in Beauty and the Beast (2017 live-action film version), and was awarded critical recognition for his portrayal of David Haller in the FX psychological thriller series Legion, which ran from 2017 to 2019. He appeared in The Guest, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire and Cuckoo.

Although many will remember him from Downton Abbey, the majority of Dan’s career has seen him attempt to develop a very dark and genre-bending style of performance. The projects Dan Stevens worked on previously have a marked similarity to the work he will be producing for Dexter: Resurrection, season 2.

Unfortunately, we do not have any knowledge at this point of what role Dan Stevens will play in Dexter: Resurrection season 2. The production team is being secretive on all accounts of narrative and the addition of new characters. A show as large and as popular as Dexter: Resurrection will be secretive about things such as narrative and casting of new characters.

What do we know about Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 so far?

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will be another incredible season packed with A-listers. The Season 2 cast has added Brian Cox (who plays Logan Roy in Succession) as a series regular in the role of the New York Ripper, a serial killer whose attacks have had a lasting impact on the victims of his many rampages over a long period of time.

While Don Frampt (Cox’s character) was only mentioned in Season 1, there was no visual representation of him, and that has created much anticipation to be able to see this character.

Uma Thurman played Charley in the first season of Dexter: Resurrection and will appear in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. She was Leon Prater’s right-hand special armed forces person. She left New York City at the end of Season 1, so it is undecided whether she will be an ally to Dexter or a threat when she returns.

Michael Hall plans to step back into his role as Dexter Morgan. Meanwhile, Jack Alcott will come back as Harrison. The directorial approach for the show will be similar to the directorial approach used in season one, with Marcos Siega directing six episodes again for the upcoming season.

Season 1 was an instant explosion of success from all perspectives. Dexter: Resurrection became the most-streamed premiere ever on Showtime, accumulating 3.1 million cross-platform viewers worldwide in its first three days of airing, which broke the record that Dexter: Original Sin set for streaming premieres.

Due to such figures and a cast that continues to develop, with performers like Dan Stevens now included, there are a lot of expectations placed on Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

Currently, there is no official date for the premiere of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 beyond the window of October 2026. Dexter Resurrection season 1 is available to stream on Paramount+ for subscribers.
