Black Monday: Showtime’s underrated historical dark comedy is now streaming on Netflix

Good news for the subscribers of Netflix, as all three seasons of Showtime’s Black Monday were released yesterday on Netflix US. On Showtime, the series premiered on January 20, 2019. The series ended in 2021. Even though it had a strong cast with Reginal Hall, Don Cheadle and Andrew Ranells, the show never got the attention it deserved. This month, it will arrive on Netflix and many people may finally discover it.

The story takes place in the busy and wild world of Wall Street during the late 1980s. The show builds up to Black Monday and the real stock market crash happened on October 19, 1987. The first moment shows the crash itself, with a body falling onto a Lamborghini limousine after jumping from a tower

Black Monday does not reveal who the victim is, but it goes back in time and tells the story of the people who were connected to the crash. Don plays Maurice. Maurice is a bold trader who runs a small firm. Moreover, Regina plays Dawn, the longtime partner of Maurice. At last, Andrew appears as Blair, a new employee who is fresh to the industry and still learning the ropes.

Black Monday finds a new life

The show was created by David Caspe and Jordan Cahan. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen created the show. What’s on Netflix reported that all three seasons are available in America starting from April 13. Over the years, the series has been called a hidden gem by viewers and has earned an average 79% score across all the seasons. One of the reviewers said:

“I think this is about as great as a show can get. It’s FUNNY, it’s super original, it’s smart, it’s cheeky, it’s DIVERSE, the set design is amazing and it’s easy to watch.”

The first season did not get the best reviews from critics. The second season showed what happened after the crash, received a much better review and earned a score of 84%. After watching season 2, another reviewer said:

“There’s a lot to like about this fresh and funny series, so if you’re looking for quality escapism with rapid-fire wit, I can’t think of a better binge. Black Monday just lets its people move through its wild world in relatively sensible ways – paying back those who burned them and scheming to get more power, money, and as*. Bottom line: it’s a lot of fun.”

Many people may not have heard about the show before. The arrival on Netflix could bring in a whole new audience. The series has impressive set design and costumes that capture the look and give the feeling of the 1980s. The story moves quickly and is full of surprises, making it exciting to watch. All of this gives the series a strong chance to become a hit on streaming.
