What happened with Ruby Rose and Katy Perry? Feud explored as former accuses singer of s*xual assault

Australian model, actress, and TV presenter Ruby Rose is accusing American singer-songwriter Katy Perry of s*xual assault.

On April 12, Complex Music shared a Threads post highlighting Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella set. It was captioned:

“Honestly, though. Katy Perry reacts to Justin Bieber’s Coachella set, where he essentially sang karaoke to his older material on YouTube…”

For those unaware, the pop icon attended Coachella with her new boyfriend and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She said during Bieber’s set:

“Thank God he has Premium. I don’t wanna see no ads.”

Underneath Complex Music’s post, Ruby Rose commented:

“Katy Perry s*xually assaulted me at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a sh*t what she thinks?”

This is not the first time Ruby Rose has made accusations against Katy Perry. In May 2017, the former threw shade at the latter for seemingly dissing her friend Taylor Swift in the song, Swish Swish, featuring Nicki Minaj.

“Purposeful poop to ‘bomb a petit’ to a sloppy mess of writing over the top of Funkagenda… stop trying to make ‘Wit… I mean, ‘fetch’ happens,” Rose tweeted at the time.

According to Grazia Magazine, Ruby Rose was referring to Katy labelling her new music as “purposeful pop” and her other new single, Bon Appétit. The Orange is the New Black actress also used the infamous Mean Girls quote “stop trying to make fetch happen,” seemingly replacing ‘Fetch’ with half of Perry’s fourth album, Witness.

Exploring further Ruby Rose’s past criticism of Katy Perry

Back in mid-2017, Roby Rose continued to call out Katy Perry on social media. When the latter’s fanbase launched a counterattack on the Batwoman star, she defended herself by writing:

“I just think with everything going on in the world, to go from rebranding as a political activist [Perry was campaigning for Hillary Clinton’s race to the White House against Donald Trump] only to ditch it and go low… is a bummer… I’ve always stood up for the people I love and against things I think are cheap or mean-spirited. That’s not new. You have to follow your [heart symbol].”

Ruby Rose, now aged 40, continued:

“You are her fans, you should buy all her songs so the songs will finally chart. If as many as tweeted me bought her last 3… they’d be hits.”

While Perry did not respond to Rose directly, she appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show and claimed her song, Swish Swish, is a “great anthem” for people to use “whenever somebody’s trying to hold you down or bully you.” Katy added that the entire Witness album was “360-degree liberation,” be it political as in Chained to the Rhythm, “all the negative that doesn’t serve you” as in Swish Swish, or s*xual as in Bon Appetit.

The Part of Me artist also told Entertainment Weekly:

“I think [my new album is] a very empowered record. There is no one thing that’s calling out any one person. One thing to note is: You can’t mistake kindness for weakness and don’t come for me. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone. And that’s not to any one person and don’t quote me that it is, because it’s not.”

Two days later, Ruby Rose appeared to retract her comments and tweeted:

“Being mean doesn’t suit me and leaves me feeling dirty. Truth is, being mean leaves more leaks in your camp than the Titanic, and I get so triggered when I think bullies don’t get held accountable, and it makes me think I should say something… but it’s not the place.”

Rose continued to write that she is a strong believer in Karma and that “truth always surfaces.” However, she’s not God and can’t decide “when or how” that happens. Ruby concluded by saying her reaction comes from being “bullied in school and wanting to stick up for underdogs.”

“However, I shouldn’t stoop because then the msg is mixed,” she added.

As for Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, their controversial past goes back to 2015 when the former sided with Nicki Minaj after Swifties rallied against the rapper online following the Swift-Minaj drama at the MTV VMAs. Katy tweeted:

“Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…”

Later, when Swifties targeted her, Perry further wrote:

“Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing.”

She later confirmed it was about Taylor. They also continued to feud over backup dancers and mutual ex, John Mayer. Later, Swift released a single, Bad Blood, which was perceived as a Katy Perry diss track.

What did Ruby Rose recently say about Katy Perry?

Over the weekend, Ruby Rose accused Katy Perry of inappropriate behavior tracing back two decades. When a user wrote “She kissed a girl, and you didn’t like it?” seemingly referring to Katy’s famous song, Rose detailed her alleged experience:

“She didn’t kiss me. She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side, and rubbed her disgusting v*gina on my face, until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.”

Ruby Rose went on to call out people in the comment section for not taking her accusation seriously and shared that for this and many other reasons, victims of s*xual abuse and women-on-women violence never came forward. She also claimed it is often harder than speaking out about “male predators.”

Rose mentioned narrating the same in public over the years as a “funny little drunk story” because she didn’t know how else to “handle” it. Subsequently, she agreed to keep it a “secret” as Perry reportedly helped her get a U.S. visa.

“But I DID tell y’all she wasn’t a good person. Instead, I got attacked… by everyone,” Ruby wrote on Threads.

She claimed it took her over twenty years to “say this publicly” and find her voice, adding it shows the impact s*xual assault and trauma can have on people.

When netizens asked why she didn’t take legal action against Katy, Ruby Rose claimed she wasn’t “interested in filing a report” as she hadn’t done anything to make the “grown men” pay for allegedly r*ping her.

“But she is more than welcome to sue me (she won’t, because it happened, I have photos and it was literally in public and witnessed by multiple people). Plus there is so much more that happened in the years leading up to her silly song she won’t want me discussing. The psychological manipulation was strong with that one,” Ruby wrote.

She continued in a follow-up comment:

“But hey! She wrote and signed the letters of recommendation for my U.S. visa application in the 2010s, so there’s that.”

When a user asked why she didn’t consider going to the police, as it seems she’s been “assaulted by everyone in the industry,” Ruby Rose slapped back by writing that it was just two individuals from the industry, and the rest were outsiders. She also explained that each case took her six months to “resolve” which she did “back-to-back,” adding it’s too much to ask of victims to spend six years in court “reliving their abuse.”

“Before I open up about something incredibly raw and traumatic, I tell myself, ‘It’s ok, you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer.’ But then I see this post and… tears consume me, in a good way. Thank you,” Ruby Rose concluded.

Katy Perry is yet to address the accusations.
