A spectacular celebration of fandom and creativity

Recently, Kolkata Comic Con took place, and those who attended this event can undoubtedly say on how if offered a vibrant playground for fans to come together and celebrate their love for pop culture this weekend. This event has been presented by Maruti Suzuki Arena and powered by Crunchyroll. Interestingly, that is not all, as it also has a strong support from NODWIN Gaming.

The Comic Con was held at the Biswa Bangle Exhibition Centre, and once we entered the event, it felt less like a convention and more festivity vibes. From our perspective, the energy was simply unmatched, and to see happy faces enjoying this space that welcomes different genres of pop culture, it was a safe place where someone could unleash all of their love for something and not feel judged.

From the very moment anyone would have entered the gate, we could see fans flooding the venue. Many came dressed as their favorite characters, which instantly elevates the vibes. Everyone was so happy that the tone was set in a way that attendees were guaranteed to have an unforgettable weekend. Some cosplayers were so committed to becoming the character they loved that it was reflected in the dedication to detail they had in making the costumes and getting ready.

One thing was apparent: Cosplay culture is now rapidly rising in India, as some of the costumes were almost identical. Kolkata Comic Con 2026 had fans who embodied characters from popular shows like Bleach, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and more, which just made it clear how passionate the anime community has become throughout the years.

One of the major highlights of Day 1 of this event was the presence of an extremely popular Brazilian comic artist known as Roge Antonio. During the Creators Across Borders session, he was very proactive as he gave insight into his major works like X-Men Red and Deadpool. His interaction with fans was memoerable and moments like these just make Comic Con have an influence on a deeply personal level with those who attend.

This year’s event also featured sessions with Harsho Mohan Chattoraj, along with contributions from Alpha Comics and Amar Chirtra Katha. If this was not enough, we also got to witness a special presentation celebrating Superman by Warner Bros. Now we also have Shefali Johnson, CEO of Comic Con India, give a statement:

“From literature to music, theatre to cinema, creativity here is not just culture, it is a part of Bengal’s identity. Comic Con feels like an extension of Kolkata’s soul.”

And honestly, everyone who walked through the venue, it is hard to disagree.

But we also need to talk about how this Comic Con event was more than just panels of cosplayers. The NODWIN Gaming Zone was packed with fans trying out all the setups and thoroughly enjoying themselves. It is just that anime fans had a lot to explore. We had the Crunchyroll booth stand out as there was a Jujutsu Kaisen interactive gaming zone, a Suzume photo booth, and more.

When we entered the show floor, it was nothing less than a treasure trove, as this event had manga stalls with collectables, posters, and merchandise that everyone could look at. There were franchises like Naruto, Tokyo Ghoul, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure that dominated the space, while indie creators showcased unique artwork that reflected both global trends and local storytelling.

If this was not enough, the second day had more events like interactive storytelling, where fans could take part in real time. There were also live performances and events, which kept fans hooked had multiple opportunities to make lasting memories. According to Akshat Rathee:

“Comic Con in Kolkata feels less like an event and more like an ongoing conversation.”

It has been recorded that more than 30,000 fans attended across two days, proving that this event has found its place in the heart of Kolkata’s cultural calendar. In the end, this was just more than a convention, and fans are talking about how their expectations went above and beyond. They are excited to see what comes next.
