Pim, Charlie and all employees of the titular nonprofit charity bid a final goodbye to their fans in the final two episodes of Smiling Friends Season 3 which aired on Adult Swim on April 12.
In February 2026, the sitcom’s fans were left disappointed when co-creators Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack announced that Smiling Friends would conclude after its third season, despite being renewed for an additional two seasons. Both Hadel and Cusack credited the sitcom’s sudden ending to burnout and creative fatigue.
Despite this shocking announcement, Smiling Friends Season 3, which concluded in November 2025, returned for an additional two episodes, which are now streaming on HBO Max.

What happened in Smiling Friends Season 3’s final two Episodes?
The official synopsis for Episodes 9 and 10 reads as follows:
”The Smiling Friends befriend a helpful robot. What happens next will shock you.”
”Pim and Charlie meet Charlie’s uncle, who’s full of mysteries and tricks alike. And then Allan goes gaga.”
Smiling Friends Season 3’s final two episodes are laugh-out-loud riots that follow yet another adventure for Pim and Charlie in their titular company, determined to bring happiness to the world.
Episode 9 titled ‘Friend-Bot (Version 12589218731809213528796879521)‘ saw Pim and Charlie bring Friend-Bot, a robotic servant of an obese bedbound man, after he dies from a heart attack, to their office. Since the Friend-Bot is capable of performing a variety of tasks, Pim, Charlie and other employees feel insecure until Glep tears off the robot’s face only to reveal an Indian man. It turns out the man had outsourced his tasks to make time for his friends and family.
The Smiling Friends Season 3’s final entry titled ‘Charlie’s Uncle Dies and Doesn’t Come Back‘ saw Pim and Charlie meet with the latter’s dying uncle Bilbert. Charlie’s uncle asks the duo to make him happy and convinces them to accompany him to an illegal 3D-character cockfighting ring, which lands them in jail. When Bilbert nearly strangles Pim to death, Charlie comes to his rescue, with the former revealing that his 30 years of abuse towards Charlie was to make him strong enough to stand for himself. In the final moments, Bilbert is recognized as the notorious and wanted criminal “Cincinnati S*xpest” and arrested for his crimes.
While Smiling Friends has concluded its run with these final entries, creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel have expressed the desire to return if they feel inspired. This is why Smiling Friends Season 3’s final two episodes do not feel like an end and keep the possibilities for more stories & adventures open in the future.
