Britney Spears is one of the most recognizable pop idols from the early 2000s. Her immediate success was buoyed by her looks, music and dancing prowess, which all blended together to make Spears a standalone success for over a decade. The “Slave 4 U” singer has two sons, Sean Preston (20) and Jayden James Federline (19), with her ex-husband and former backup dancer Kevin Federline.
In the latest news involving the “Princess of Pop”, it has been reported that Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into a rehab clinic five weeks after her most recent DUI arrest stemming from an incident on March 4. Spears was arrested at the time on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in Ventura, California.
A representative for the singer was contacted by PEOPLE and shared the following statement:
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
The source also called the incident “completely inexcusable.” This follows a series of concerning moments from Spears, both in real life and on social media, since the dissolution of her conservatorship in 2021.
Britney Spears called out by ex in explosive 2025 interview, more
Spears’ recent DUI has raised concerns among fans and observers, particularly given some of the challenges she has faced in recent years. This is likely the reason for her voluntarily checking into a treatment facility to help better manage her addictions and coping mechanisms.
The songstress’ ex-husband Kevin Federline is seemingly one of the few people in her life who saw this coming. In October 2025, he released his memoir, You Thought You Knew, in which he was upfront about the notion that it was long overdue for people in her orbit to “time to sound the alarm” on her behavior.
“It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”
It’s unclear how Britney Spears’ current stint in rehab will shape her future, although all parties involved are certainly hoping she gets the help that she needs.
