Daredevil: Born Again might be hinting at something major in the MCU, as a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in season 2 is indicating there is more connections in Daredevil’s world. During a fight between Daredevil and Bullseye in episode 4, Gloves Off, the background suddenly contains something wild: broken glass and strategically placed lights form the unmistakable face of The Watcher; Uatu, the all-seeing cosmic entity who observes events across the multiverse in the MCU. It’s subtle and easy to dismiss as coincidence. But in a franchise obsessed with laying Easter eggs, it most probably is not a co-incidence.
The Watcher made his MCU debut as the narrator of What If…?, where Jeffrey Wright voiced the character through the animated series’ three-season run. Kevin Feige has hinted that characters from What If…? could eventually cross into the main MCU timeline and this broken-glass cameo might be exactly what he meant, as a way of suggesting that Uatu is keeping tabs on the Man Without Fear.
Daredevil has always existed at the edges of the MCU, but Daredevil: Born Again is firmly integrating it into the larger universe. If Marvel is introducing cosmic observers into the narrative, it opens doors. The Watcher’s presence suggests that events in Hell’s Kitchen are being documented on a multiverse-wide scale snd that’s a massive upgrade from street-level vigilantism to something with genuine cosmic implications.
Whether this is intentional setup for the show’s Season 3 and it’s reported Defenders reunion or just a fun Easter egg remains unclear but it’s clear that Marvel is thinking bigger with Daredevil than simple Netflix nostalgia, as it seems like they’re threading it into the multiverse mythology that has defined the MCU.
